Dave - that was my 1st crash w/ the 450 in months & months! I forgot how exciting it was ducking flying heli parts! Speaking of parts, that's an awful lot of moving parts on something that flies. I'd be nervous on that Osprey! LOL Great news on the packs. I'm telling you swing from nose right to nose left through nose in & the other way slowly. Then just stop nose in once in awhile. It feels very natural doing it that way.
There ARE lots of moving parts!
I'll start swing it around left - center - right... the next time I fly. Too busy, windy and cold this weekend.
I have had trouble with RCU
Nice nose in taxi! Now your just showing off!

Ivan-
1600, whoa, that should be fun, if you can keep in on the ground

Dave - LOL!

Ivan - thanks again for your help!

If the wind ever dies down, I'll try some flying outside. near 80° F tomorrow!

Good news and bad news... Good news first. The ticket and fault in the accident were dismissed. Bad news... see pictures..

Phil,

It was horribly mean and unsettling, as well.   I had just finished up setting tail precomp and was doing tail work by doing pitch pumps with piros and a hard stop at the top.  I got it sorted in one direction and had started in the other piro direction when I dumb thumbed it.  Piro tail slide from 30 feet up to 30 feet down.   Damage apart from blades was about 70 bucks, so I can live with that.

You are taking it better than me. I can fix very well just as you but I hate going into the parts box. At least hope you having fun.

Phil,

I was actually stunned. But, what can Ido about it but keep positive. Bummer is, I had no spares. They all came in yesterday, so Igot everything done but put the boom and its supports on. Oh, well. Luckily, I've found nothing else broken.

Thanks for the shoulder, bro. In the end, it's all good. Have you been flying lately?

Those pictures just doesn't look right...sorry to hear about the dumb thumbs. See my paragraphs below...

Chuck-
A shrink? Ask Phil, maybe he has a spare/old set of brass ones he can send you?

Here's some info from the Feb/March issue of RC Heli Pilot:
Heli Freak Fun Fly
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zelmRnrZv2Q
http://find.helipilotonline.com/021201

Why you might want to get a HeliCommand HC3 SX:

For most RC heli pilots, the HC3 Base is more than adequate while costing half the price of the HC3 SX. There will be no flight handing difference between any of the HC3 controllers because the sensors and the control algorithms are the same. However, the SX has a fantastic feature that very few other flybarless electronic systems in the world have; a "panic mode." At any time during a flight if the pilot becomes disoriented, he/she can simply activate a panic button on their transmitter and the HC3 SX will automatically level the helicopter and then apply collective pitch to make the helicopter climb vertically, upward, away from earth.

The HC3 SX does not care whether the helicopter is right side up, inverted or on its side; it does not care what the orientation is, once that panic button is pressed, the feature just works.

Suppose to get windy Saturday late afternoon and into Sunday, try to get some flying in before that.

Scott - OK 50/50, you beat man's law but lost to Mama Nature's law! OUCH... I've got a couple of those thumbs!

Dave - Maybe the ole pirate will share! My solution in the mean time is to fly the old Cub J3 a few times & get the feel & then try the new one! LOL HC3, hmmm...

Flymentor update- it's on & running but I'm not sure it's quite right yet. I found an issue with the tail while doing the setup - the tail gear moves side to side as the servo moves. I've only put 1 pack with it active & it was late in the day so the sun was going down & part of the "problem" might have been low contrast. I will try a couple of more packs to get the feel of it. It has potential if I can tweak it right.

Dave,

I've thought about that unit. I really have. It's just way expensive right now. The damage on the 7hv wasn't too bad. In fact, it's all back together and ready to fly, again!

Chuck,

Yep, I got bit. Big azz fish. All natural.

Still in Texas. Finally got to racing today. Set the world record once again running 8.63 @ 172 MPH. Lots left in the car.

That's awesome, Ivan!  I read each and every post.  Lifting wheels at the second/third shift is just crazy!  You da man!
