RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
This is the address for the complete setup for the DX7 & CX2: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Articles...ArticleID=1658
I set up both of my CX2's with this and they fly super. So much better than the stock radio. Enjoy!!! |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Looking at the Boomtownhobbies site - I see a CF Model 3 tail and an Xtreme boom kit..
- Are these both made from Carbon Fiber? - Are these both the same weight? - Any preferences between the two? Thanks! Alex |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hi Alex,
They are both made out of carbon fiber however the Xtreme boom is a woven carbon fiber where the boom town kit (model 3) is a smooth matte finish carbon fiber. The Xtreme boom kit is 18 grams and the Model 3 is 11 grams. The Xtreme skids are heavier too than the Boomtown skids. Weight wise that M3 and ultra flex skids are hard to beat at almost 15 grams lighter which gives it the agile-ness everyone talks about. However the Xtreme parts are very nice quality and give the heli a very extreme and different look. The carbon boom Xtreme uses is a beautiful woven carbon shaft and looks very cool. The Xtreme boom looks incomplete with out the skids. I recommend if you go with the Xtreme parts then get both the skids and boom kit. Price wise the M3 boom and skids is $26 and the Xtreme boom and skids is about $38. If you like the looks of the Xtreme kit I would recommend it. If you like the idea of a lighter kit or if you don’t want to spend the extra money please try ours. Either way we have them both in stock and ready to ship. www.boomtownhobbies.com |

Sterman -
Thank you for the quick response.. I guess like everyone - I want it ALL.. :-) It would have been great to get the Xtreme and not have the weight penalty.. I think I will go for the Mod 3 for now .. Thanks! |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hmmm - Do the CF tail fins negate some of the weight difference?
|
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
The Xtreme kit comes with platics fins and you can upgrade to carbon fiber. The Xtreme plastic fins that come with the boom kit are 3 grams and the carbon fiber upgrades are 2 grams. So by changing over to the carbon fiber fins you can save 1 gram. The is not that much difference in weight between the plastic and carbon fiber but every gram helps. The reason why they are lighter is because the carbon fiber fins are smaller. The carbon fiber fins do look very nice! I like the silver carbon fiber myself. The carbon fiber fins are $14 for the set, they are not cheap becuase it is high quality carbon fiber.
The boomtownhobbies M3 kit was designed to be very light and at the same time still be very strong. The Xtreme kit is more to give the heli and xtreme look. It is a little heavier but it does have an awesome look. I would recommend if someone is going with the Xtreme parts to also buy the carbon fiber fins, remove the fake tail rotor and add the Xtreme motors which are 2 grams lighter. Over all you save about 4 grams and puts you a little closer to the stock weight. |

Jamie/Stersman,
Thanks for posting that great information. Since I already have your CF boom amd skids you just saved me some money. I like the look of the xtreme stuff but weight is a concern to me. And your products look and perform great. Thanks again. |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
CAn someone please tell me where I can get the folding blades at?
|
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
I have read all about the Vortex parts, and how easy of a fix it is. However, I order these parts and can't get the outer shaft to fit through the CX's bearings. Is there a trick to this, or am I the only one that has had this problem?

RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hey all! Long time no post! Seriously! :D Anyway, I got into RC Trucks last summer and kinda forgot about this thread, but it looks like it really took off after I left! Anyway, I'd like to thank Makatron for creating a website from the content. Below is some stuff I'm hoping to add to the list:

RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
As for the question about the MegaPower battery, I usually get around 10 or even 15 Minutes from mine. One thing you'll notice is that there's no sudden loss of power as with the stock battery, it just starts gradually losing it so it's up to you as to how long you fly. I usually quit after I can't turn without falling, it's better for the battery.

Jamie at Boomtownhobbies is great. I picked up most of my upgrades there. Things I have purchased from him include:
Xtreme: 2 motors 2 Canopies Baldes (5 sets top and bottom, they do break) Tail Boom Super Skids 2 DN batteries Extended upper head I also did the soloboss flybar mod, aluminum lower head, moved the servo links out 1 notch, heat sink and home made LEDs. She flies great, fast, and furious. The 5MM extended head helped with fast flying, but i can still get blade clack. Check out the videos: Fast Flying: [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCQ8TC5LPHY&feature=user]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCQ8TC5LPHY&feature=user[/link] Is it durable? Yep! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_TL1tKnTGQ&feature=user Steady as a rock? If tuned well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGLK_...eature=related Enjoy all those who just got a CX from Santa! |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hey xyster101, Where did you get those lights? Sorry If you've already linked somewhere else. Thanks!!
Dale |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
I made the lights. I bought the LEDs at Radio shack and some resistors. Then used this page to get the proper resistor to each light:
http://www.theledlight.com/ledcircuits.html http://ledcalc.com/ They run off the battery. |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
I’m new to the RC world and read this thread from the beginning to the end, things changed slightly over time: in some of the posts despised bladecxpro.com guys do not sell upgrade parts any longer. Their mission is to “inform peoples about upgrades that can actually cause troubles!!”.
Did they get transformed into http://www.bladecx2.com/? I must say the two upgrade kits offered on this site look compelling to me however the “Blade CX Extreme Racing Canopy” as is offered on http://www.helihobby.com/html/blade_cx2.html looks exactly same - which one is genuine? Having no true experience what is written on bladecxpro.com sounds reasonable. To me it seems some upgrade-enthusiasts prefer ALU upgrades while the other prefer performance, durability and steady flight. Could these two go together or is it either or (i.e. visual effect vs. overall performance)? What’s your opinion about what’s written on bladecxpro.com? xyster101 , the mods you did is exactly what I’m after: she then looks great but flies even better! Do the LEDs really drain battery that much? The producer of ready made kits at http://tjtrc.com/Liglow.htm suggests it shortens the flight time by 6 seconds from 10 mins??. (btw: the link has changed compared to what’s listed in the initial post). Apart from the home made lights – the rest of mods you got from Boomtownhobbies or is there anything else? |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
hey mate the stuff selled in bladecx2.com is just rebranded stuff, i rather go www.boomtownhobbies.com and buy from jamie instead, best quality stuff and he really knows how to do business
|
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
All those mods can be bought at boomtownhobbies and jamie knows me well there too. The lights might take a minute off, maybe. I am not sure. It is not enough that i notice. Those LEDs will probably run for a few hours on one battery pack, so it is can't be too much.

RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hey Guys,
I was looking at BoomTown hobbies and I think I want to buy the following things: BTH001 BoomTownHobbies Model 3 carbon boom kit CX/2 BTH002 BoomTownHobbies Ultra Flex Skids CX/2 BTH003 BoomTownHobbies M3 replacement fin set dn850cx DN Power 15C 850mAh High Performance CX/2 Battery Pack ESL001 Xtreme motors (Pair) EA-016 Xtreme Motor Heat sinks (one pair) As far as installation goes, how hard is it to install the boom kit, new motors, and the heat sinks? And do these parts come with instructlind, basically.ions for installing them? I ask because I am new to the hobby and these would be my first modifications. So I'd be going into it blind basically :) Also, would it be worth it to upgrade to the extreme blade grips and blades sold on the site too? Thanks, Justin |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide

RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hi and what a great thread !!
I own a vortex v2 right now but i dont like it much and am getting a cx2 next week, as i read through this thread it appears that lots of vortex parts are preffered to cx parts, is this the case with my v2 or is it just the original vortex. If this is the case then which v2 parts would you reccommend me to swap over ? inner shafts / outer shafts etc Thanks in advance |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
eljewmage ,
The replacement fins you do not need. Jamie at Boomtown said he has only sold a handful of them. I have crashed many times and my fins have not broken. They are very flexable. With any CX you should have the following extra parts on hand: Upper and lower blades (even Xtreme blades break) outer shaft inner shaft Flybar If you have super skids, aluminum lower and upper head, and blade grips the parts listed above will be the main things you break. Some additional items you might want to keep: Xtreme canopy Canopy rod kit Battery tray -Max |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
Hi All,
I just bought a used Blade CX2 Heli. I currenly have a MRC Superbrain 977 charger. Should I buy the FMA Direct CellPro 4S Balance Charger or is the Superbrain 977 ok. I will be purchasing the Mega Power 15C 850MaH to replace the stock battery. Can some point me to a place where I can buy an adapter if I decide to use my SB 977 charger so I can use it with the Blade cx2 battery. Thanks for the help in advance. |
RE: Ultimate CX2 Mod Guide
as long as the charger can balance the two cells is ok,
any new pics of your helis?? |
