Solo's upgrades

This is not good. In fact it's worse than not good. It's nauseating.
I am confor. . . m . . .ing.
I am transitioning from a fringe thinker to a conformist.
Xtreme has done me in.
Xtreme has turned my lithe and agile flier into a pelican. It glides along stable and smooth, then wheels and dives in an instant - yet has enough power to regain control.
I have the stock canopy and boomer skids / boom but the batts, motors, blades and grips are Xtreme. The flybar is mine with 3 collars per side.
And she's a porker now. 190g with my latest upgrades w/o battery. That's up 12g from my prior 'home-made' setup.

I must admit that I can blow all the leaves off of the patio, get a great hover and still have enough speed to dent the rain gutter - and fly away after the whack.
So what's not to be happy about?
With my own grips and blades and flybar it was my own unique stuff. And it worked pretty well, but not like this. My blade/grip combo didn't have the consistency that these parts have.
Maybe it's the white blades? I'm not liking that, but sometimes adding black makes plastic do odd stuff. Perhaps a spritz of paint will help the blades. So I need a color. I guess aluminum would be appropriate. A candy blue over the silver grips and aluminum over the blades might look good. Aluminum paint is heavy because of the aluminum flakes in it. Maybe a titanium or pewter?? And I'm using a modified plastic lower hub with my original plastic swash. A little blue paint there might be a dressy look.

So that's where we are right now. Me 'n the pelican. Feeling sorta porky, but gettin' the job done. Most definitely gettin' the job done.
I'm in line to get the sport body next. So who has the weight of the sport body, tail, skids and all?
Then I'll need a paint job. Maybe I'll use clear coat so the heli will be invisible.

Pelicans are neat. I saw a video of a pelican eating a pigeon once. Its seems that the exteme upgrades are definitely worth it!
I have only 2 minutes of flying time under my belt (The drinking thing) and was only able to get the factory replacement parts tonight- Payday!!!-the blades, etc, but the Extreme parts are next on my list. Now hopefully I can get the thing back together w/o some sort of diagram!! I will most certainly use your guide for getting the heli in precision flying order- thanks again for the "Guide"!!! C.

I want to say that due to my addiction I have a need for upgrades. I receieved a set of xtreme blades and 180 motors. I did not get the blade holders, batt smc, prob come in Sat morning. but for now I'm gonna install motors and fly with stock blades to see and compare how it flies against the extreme blades with microheli blade holders.

You see what happens when you become part of the collective :) there are levels of assimilation! You have just gone to a different level my friend. Welcome to Xtremeville! I think your going to like it here! I couldn't be happier if I tried! I'm actually a little disappointed however. My days of modding the CX2 are coming to an end :( Once the new canopy arrives and I paint it along with my home made tail fin....my CX2 will stay that way well until it wears out and gets a new set of Xtreme motors. No more major changes on her....she is perfect now!

RE: Solo's upgrades

Hi all, well I installed the xtreme 180's and used stock blades with stock batt and it flies heavy... usually with stock motors I can hover at 1/2 stick. I'm actually 3 clicks higher with new motors.... [X(][:@] I need to break motors in.... HOW do you do that?..... or is it too late..... I hovered for about 3 min... hopefully with the smc 800mah 22c, micro heli alum blade holders and xtreme blades I'll get better hover for the juice....I'll get those hopefully in the morning......Then I will see what alot of you are talking about....

SO HOW DO YOU BREAKE IN A EXTREME 180 motor?

I also lost [X(] which motor was which... I installed the wires on the rx the same way the old ones came off and made sure they turn the same direction... hope thats enough.

If I remember right a lot of people do 1/3 throttle increments. So start of at 1/3 throttle for 10 or 20 mins can't remember exact time then do the same for 2/3 and full. I just plug the motors in the receiver to do this. I do it a little different. I throttle up until the motors start to spin then leave it there for an hour. It is longer and I don't know how well this works compared to the way others do it. Looking from the back the motor with the pinion that is farther away from the motor is on the right side and the pinion closer the motor is on the left side. Hope this helps.

RE: Solo's upgrades

Some people dislike the 'breaking in via 4-in-1' because that isn't a stable DC, it's a switching power supply. So really fast on/off continously. This might not seat your brushes the right way. You can also just use 2 AA batteries and connect them to the motors and leave them running for around 30 minutes. But there's loads of info about breakin-in on this forum.

Back to Solo; How come you're nimble CX2 turned into a 'whaler'?! Mine (with all alloy, but no grips) doesn't seem any heavier then stock... It even flies better! Have you tried one less colar on the flybar? I can even fly my 'big *ss' batteries with them in slight winds!

There's a post (i think by Wolfpackin) with all the weights of stock and Xtreme parts somewhere around here... Maybe your custom boom is weighing in?

About the colour; i know you have a hard time getting accustomed with something you haven't actually made/defined/choosen yourself ;) But as you've said, it's about conforming :). You can definately get your own touch to it with a paintjob. And if you look at it from a different angle; the Xtreme-parts can get you to the next step:

Brushless CX2! That seems like something you'd want and can do, right?! ;) But then you might want to consider a 'normal' alloy head and swash to cope with the higher torque and speeds :)

See? Enough to keep you busy! ;)

shufflez,

Did you get my email a while back with all the weights?
I have all the weights on a Word document and can't post it here.

RE: Solo's upgrades

Shufflez, I got the Xtreme skid set on and my lithe little CX has gone from 178g to 196g. And I haven't put the X tail on it yet. No question that I do like the look! Maybe I need some black trim to set off the white. Sort of a European Police look.
I gotta get Michael on here to confirm my request for the tail and canopy.
Thanks again,
Soloboss
