The idea is to leave enough overhead for the motor to unload, but not so much that your throwing away current or incorporating excess weight.
This is only a guideline but doesn't address motor sizing, etc.
My new SS EP is using a 750KV motor with a 14.8v 4S 3650 pack and a 12x7E prop.
I have my flight timer set to 14 minutes, but I tend to push flights beyond that without worry.

Guys,
Flew my Great Planes Super Sportster EP again this morning at my Club that is on the way to work and what a delightful Sport model.
I am still flying the model with the HIMAX HC3630-1000 (1000 Kv) and swinging the Master Airscrew "Wooden" Glow 10 X 7 with very good results using the light and generic 3-Cell, 2200mAH, 25C, Li-POLYs. I place the timer at nothing over 7-minutes and because of her light weight, it is almost always Dead Stick landings as it continues to float and float but, I have it dialed in and landings are picture perfect and right in front of the pilots station.
I have just ordered some fresh 3-cell, 2600mAH, 30C, Li-POLYs and watch out!

A WARM Thanksgiving wishes to all!
Oh wow!
Thanksgiving morning produced one of the best weather conditions ever in Central Florida with completely Dead Calm and nice and sunny with Dark Blue Skys! I stayed for 5 hours!!!

Havent been in this thread in a while...
Mine met the ground at well over 50mph on a dive when the elevator broke and poof! It was indeed spectacular.
Still have box cover decorating inside garage door...and thats about it. [&o]

Interesting... that's exactly how my first one went in.
The CA hinges that are provided deteriorate after a year or so and will crack and break.
I recommend using somebody else's CA hinges, such as the Dubro ones.

It was the wood itself that broke width wise on both sides. [X(]
I was impressed that the servo was able to push against such high wind to the point of failure.
"Another" lesson learned.
I do have the fuselage inmortalized in google sketch up with the thought of some day making it a tad bigger.

The large tail surfaces are prone to this at higher speeds than the plane was designed for....

Can't believe it has been over 2 years since I have flown my beloved Great Planes Super Sportster EP!!!
After a very Long Shelving of the model, I dusted it off and carefully looked it over with a fine eye and hands such that I decided to re-enforce the Vertical and Horizontal Stabs (this is the weak part of this model) and installed light wire-wrap gauge wire to keep the Horizontal Stab from flexing and making some wired noises during fast speed passes! I double checked all other control surfaces and it is ready to fly once more!
This model has lots of flights and it somehow keeps flying solid everytime!

Wow,
After perhaps 6 months of NOT flying this fine model, I took her out and flew it with a large 3-Cell, 5,000mAH Lithium Battery pack and did great as it was pretty windy.
It still zooms nicely!

Six Long years!
You know that I have just too many RC Airplane models as I can't seem to rotate them enough!
It flew with the lighter GEN ACES 3-Cell, 2200mAH, 30C, Lithium Polymer Packs!
It was very nice this morning and it zoomed with zest appeal.

Well...... it seems like it is time to update this thread with a new Airframe made for the Brushless Motors.
I purchased it used about four (4) years ago from someone locally here in the Central Florida area.
Time to take that one down and give it a nice review and build update here!
