Default Graupner Terry tips

Here's a pic of how I reinforced the stabilizer. It came off on my first landing(not crash!). Any ideas on strengthening the wing mounts? The inserts pulled loose after a couple of flights too. I re-glued with more epoxy this time but it still seems weak. Also will post a pic of my aileron setup.

This setup works well. There is more weight in the Y harness than the servo adds. I will trim the Y harness and get rid of 80% of the wire. Also, thoughts on the down thrust angle. Seems to pull mine down when I go full throttle. Wouldn't ballooning up in altitude at full throttle be a positve thing in a model like this?

Default Good job with the Ailerons

I like how you did the ailerons. How did you hinge them if you don't mind me asking. Did you gut a simillar bevel as the rudder and elevator, or did you completely seperate them and then tape them back on?

The ailerons are cut, then I beveled the wing. I taped them with 3/4 strapping tape on top first thenfolded the aileron all the way up and taped the bottom all the way up to the top tape.
Let us know what kind of performance you get with that motor! Climb rate, flight times, ect. Oh, prop selection also.

Hi,

My second Terry (first had a tree visit) did fly very bad. I could not find out what was wrong.
It had heavy nose dive. Later I found out..

The elevator tail wing mount was not okay. The metal mount became lose! Lucky enough I always ad a bit of duct tape below the tail wing. This did save me.

I did glue the metal part again. This time a bit different.
In the metal part there are two holes.
If you make in the tail at these places also a small shaft (using a small stick) in a angle of about 30degrees, the epoxy glue can glide into it and it makes a kind of anker.

See image below.
XXXXX is the metal mount.
The rest is the tail piece with two shaft.
8888 is the open part (for the tail wood/cabels).

------XXXXXXXXXXXXXX------
.........//...|88888|....\\ ........|
........//....|88888|.... \\ .......|
.......//.....|88888|.......\\......|

Let the glue also covering the upper part of the metal.
Now it is far more solid.
It is also wise to ad a small strip of duct tape below the tailwing. You never know...

For making these shafts into the tail I used wooden sticks, we use here in Holland for BBQ "meat sticks"

Cheers,
Rob
