I am at the beginner/intermediate level (more to the intermediate) in flying glow planes. I would like to get into electrics.
I need recommendations/suggestions for an electric plane (plus number of cells, esc size, prop size x pitch, ect.) to do the following:
1. Ideally, be a Speed 400 motor size. (Not an absolute must)
2. ROG from a grass field.
3. Be able to handle 7 - 8 mph wind (This is the USUAL wind at my field).
4. ARF preferred.
Thanks

Get a Zagi 400x they will handle the wind and give you fun. I have been flying glow, and I do so much love, but the Zagi is as close as you can get to glow for electric as you can get. All I can say is try one. I have flown glow airplanes up to 150 mph's and the Zagi keeps it fun everytime. Me and and a buddy fly both glow and Zagi's and we both have fun. If you have any questions just email me.

Comes with motor (geared 370) and prop (buy some extras, they are hard to find locally).
Battery is made by same company (Wattage) and is made for the plane. It's an 8 cell Nimh, 5/4 AAA.
Plane is an arf and flys great up to 10mph. I have flown in 15-20 mph and the plane will handle it but it's not as much fun.
You need light gear like feather 4 channel and servos that weigh .3 oz or less.

I should have said that the Zagi is better in the wind and more durable. I prefer the Crazy Max because it has a rudder and can do all the aerobatics that the glow planes can do. Flys like a small version of the Magic but won't hover.

If you can do a laser cut wood kit (which builds faster than most foamy "ARF" airplanes anyway) look at the Mountain Models Switchback. www.mountainmodels.com
It's full house geared 370 powered low winger. It has two wing options (Clark Y and fully symmetrical), and has a retract gear option on both wings. Handles the amount of wind you mention easily. In that much wind it would be off the grass in two airplane lengths on the recommended cheap motor/gearbox.
Depending on your grass the retracts might not be a good idea. I shot 20 takeoffs and landings with my Switchback Sport RG off my club grass field last night but its short grass, and kinda thin and dry right now. Sure is fun to take off, pull up the gear, do a stall turn, a roll or two or inverted pass on the downwind, turn base, drop the gear, land, then do it again, though.....
Here's mine.
LOTS and LOTS of info about this one in the rcgroups parkflyer forum http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/forum...?s=&forumid=11
Saying a Zagi is a close to glow as electric can get is, well, not an up to date assessment.
