Guys help! whoever has a Partenavia, Balancing is a problem. did exactly per instructions, No modifications, plane came out tail heavy to about two full ounces. Main gear is not on backwards, battery is all the way back as it will go and plane will easily sit on tail [or balance precariously on main gear. cannot move battery forward or it will balance nose heavy. Alternative is to move main gear back one inch [by cutting out a portion of fuse just behind main gear then do another balance job. Advise please, thanks guys, MjS

Initially I had same problem but then realised U/C was wrong way around even though it looked correct. When I turned it around it bal perfectly with 8*RC2000 back as far as they could go.

Its the one from Hobby Lobby. Cant remember the name, gads i have twenty aircraft! Tell you what though, its an excellent airplane. Snow skies, or floats, it works pretty good! I like it a lot. Move your main gear back one inch and fill in the existing mount. makes all the difference in the world on handling. AND-------HANDLE IT LIKE A CARTON OF EGGS! It dings easily. Seeya around MICHAEL

mjs....your comments are very interesting. i am currently building my own kavan partenavia and now i am not sure whether to adjust my main gear backwards now (to save trouble later on in case i get same problem as you) OR to just follow the instructions as per the manual.

after you finished building your plane, where was the CG (according to the manual, it think it should be on the wing spar)? and where was the CG AFTER you shifted your gears backwards?

please, i'd really appreciate your comments (or any other tips) on this one. it may save me a lot of grief later on.

many thx
roger.

Greetings, Im here at work and all the specs for the plane are at home. I remember I had to carve out the foam an inch further back from the existing mould in the foam for the main gear. it solved the balance problem with no adverse effects. you can cover the original opening with white monokote self-adhesive trim strips. I must say, I am impressed with the planes performance. I custom made my own snow-skies out of a couple pieces of aluminum " exit " signs. Floats for it came from "foamfloats'' .com....... what a "hoot"!! Coat your wing tips, tip of nose with epoxy because it dings easily. use bigger lite weight tires all the way around because the cheappos they give you are too hard on the plane on landings. Also , if you dont want to make enough noise to wake the dead, leave the wheel pants off. It sounded like a drum roll on the asphalt and my "Hooligan" flying buddies said were going to get kicked-out of our flying site if i dont take the pants off. Its an excellent flyer, needs a little power on landings to be smooth, youll like it, " I nose you will " ! Enjoyed talking to you, call me again if i didnt give you all the info you wanted, Michael

I had the KP and built it per instructions. No balance problem. Had plenty of room to slide batt forward or back for correct CG. The only time it would sit on it's tail is when I took the batt out.
And the wheel pants didn't make any noise.

Using a carbon fiber rod for the wing spar will cut down on the wing flex. It does flex alot when you start getting wild with it.
Great flyer, no bad habits. Wish I stiil had it.
