I've run an 05 on 10 cells before but not long enough to say the motor will hold up.

It depends on the particular motor. I run my MEC Turbo 10 GT (17 turns) on 10 cells. Also the MEC Turbo 10+ is a good 10 cell motor. The Kyosho Mad Science series -- Mag. Mayhem, Atomic Force, & Endoplasma run on 10 cells. You have to watch the amps the motor will draw, and you may have to up the gear ratio/lower the size of prop to keep the amperage in the usefull range. Most of these mentioned motors will run in the 30 - 40 amp range very well, but going higher may well damage the motor.
