Default ESC and Throttle EPA

I tried out a new ESC for the first time yesterday. Initially, I was disappointed as the Speed 400 motor wasn't developing much power. I found that increasing the transmitter's throttle channel end point adjustment to +125% (max on this Tx) gave much more power.

Tx - Hitec Prism 7x
Rx - Hitec Electron
Motor - Graupner Speed 400
Battery - 8.4V 600 mAH NiCD
ESC - GWS ICH-400

So, two questions:

1. Why did I need to run the EPA up to max?

2. How can I tell if the motor is now developing full power?

(BTW, this is my first model and first flight since 1987. This hobby sure has undergone some changes since then!)

1. Perhaps the signal from the Prism 7X is different from typical radios.

2. Remove the ESC from the motor and connect the motor directly to the battery.

Thanks for responding, mkirsch.

Hmmm... you mean perhaps something is out of alignment? Maybe so. I dropped a note to Hitec about it.

>2. Remove the ESC from the motor and connect the motor directly to the battery.

Yep, reckon the direct approach is about the easiest way.

Default ESC and Throttle EPA

When I use an ESC from Dymond I only need half the stick to go from 0 to full throttle. The step size of the ESC may not be the same as the step size of the Tx.

If I have the throttle stick in the center point and turn on the ESC that becomes the 0 point and full is still full. If it is all the way down when I turn on the Tx the center point is now full. This is only with Dymond ECS's. Wattage, GP, Castle are different in that they use the full stick travel. I asked Helmut at Dymond about this and he said that the number of digital steps in the ESC's do not match the throttle stick on the Airtronics radio's.

Dru.
