Need advice on a motor
I recently built a glider and am not sure what motor to go with.
I called one place that suggested a Jeti 30/3. Another place suggested a Hacker B40 geared. The bird this is going into has a 110” wingspan and weighs 54oz. Any suggestions on which one I should get?? Is it actually worth the extra $100 for the Hacker?
Please e-mail me at [email protected]
Thanks

I have a Hacker 20 w gear drive that I just installed in a Pretty have not flown it yet but in test runs it appears to be smooth and powerful....I would say it is worth the extra bucks if you are serious about electrics. At a recient fun fly some were flying Hacker 50s very impressive as they also were at the TOC.

Go with the hacker.
I am running a B508S in a pylon racer on 8 cells direct drive with a custom 9/9 prop.
Over 700 Watts. That is major power for an 05 sized motor. Never missed a beat and runs like brand new.

Go with the Hacker if you can afford the extra money. My first brushless motor was a Jeti 30-3, and I still fly it (Modeltech Magic, 30-3 w/2:1 GB, 12xGP3300, 16x10 APC-E), but I like the purple guys much more!
I've since acquired a B5022XL (26 cells, 5m Ventus 2C, up&go, 10x5 APC-E), a B2015L (Stinger pylon racer, 8 cells, 105mph), and a B40FAI-F5D (D-99, 9 cells, 180mph)...all without ever wanting another Jeti.
The Jeti's are decent motors, and can spin a good prop direct, but aren't as efficient as Hackers and require a kelvar amature wrap before they can do more than 15k RPM. If you do buy the Jeti, at least spring for the Hacker Master Series controller (maybe $5 more, black label instead of red or blue). You can program the controller to work in different modes, which makes it more versatile.
