Default motor problems

hey friends...i m new to aeromodelling...i live in india...wen i connected my esc to my motor it didnt turn at all..so i used servo reversing on my tx...and wen i throttled up i heard a beep...but no turning of the motor...after a little more throttling the beep grew in shrill...and i saw smoke coming out of my battery terminal...plz help..wat could b the prob..why the motors not turning????
motor is a speed 400 8.4 v can type
esc is from world models....wm7020 15 amp continous current
i would b thankful to all those who help

Several possibilities:
1. Bad motor.
2. Motor is connected to the battery end of the ESC.
3. Battery polarity is reversed.
4. Bad ESC.

On some escs you have to retrun the throttle sitck to the off position after the initial beep.

The motor you are using sounds like a brushed can motor, could you post a link to the speed controller you are using, I could not find a listing for the model you mentioned. Are you sure the ESC is for a brushed motor? you can't use a brushless controller for a brushed motor.

u should find the link at pete..
and i know the polarity was correctly joined and the esc is for brushed motor only..i m sure....thankyou for ur replies friends
also wat measures can i use for reducing the motor vibrations...i m making a 37" foam plane
