Default Great plane ESC-20

I have just installed this speedcontroller onto my electric model.
First of all, it takes a few seconds before the ESC responds when I first switch it on. Secondly, the motor comes on and off in flight on a fully charged battery.

Anyone knows why?

Default speed control

Sounds like you may have a lot of motor noise. Did you solder capacitor and diodes to motor?
As for delay in startup I'am not sure. Depends on how long a delay I guess. Most speed controls have some delay (soft start) function to protect gears if gearbox is used.
By the way I've had a lot of speed controls and have found the Jetis from Hobby Lobby to be the best!
Good luck

Default Hmm

Yeah, they all have a delay feature. Some are there to protect the gears, some are there to program itself to know where the end points are. As far as motor quitting, make sure you have all the capacitors installed as mentioned by the gentleman and also make sure you're not overloading the ESC. If you are overloading, most of the ESC's have protection features built in. A friend of mine has a Sig Rascal and the ESC that came with it kept cutting out. It was overloaded, and was a cheap one to start out with. I don't know who's making Great Plane's ESC, but something to think about. Yes, Jeti's good, but a bit pricey, Dymond is a good deal and is made by Jeti. In fact Dymond is older version of Jeti with a different label on it. Aveox is having some good deals on brushed ESC's. On some of the SP400 ones, if you buy the ESC, they'll give you a motor free. Check out www.aveox.com

Thanks guys. Yes, I have got the capacitors on the motor. It's a 300 motor and I am running on 7 cells NiMH. How do I know if it is overloading the ESC? Do they have a device to measure the drain?

Default Drain

AstroFlight is the only one I know of that has a nice inline Amp/watt meter. a bit pricy though. Think it's a good tool if you plan on staying with electrics.
Wish I had one

Default Yes

Yes, Wattmeter is awesome to have. It sure makes your life easier. Check out my homepage to see what it looks like. http://pages.prodigy.net/yuchol/electric.htm However, I'm sure you're not overloading a 20amp ESC with that motor. Get a new ESC.

At least I know I am not overloading my ESC. I will get the Wattmeter and see what is the next suitable ESC.

I have actually tried the JETI 5A and almost burnt that thing. That's why I got hold of the ESC-20.

Thanks a lot.
