GLOW TO ELECTRIC CONVERSION

I have an Extra 300S with an O.S. 46 FX. I would like to convert it to electric with similar performance. What eqipment do I need?

Try this on for size: Axi 4130/16, CC HV-45, 12S1P 3200mAh LiPo, APC 13x6 prop. You'll want the CG forward about 1/2 inch, or where it is with a full fuel tank.

May I suggest an AXI 4120/18 (if your an AXI kind of person) and Castle Creations Phoenix 80 controller on 5s to 6s 3300-3700mah Lipos. Should probably use around a 14 to 16 inch prop. (Not sure if that size prop would work on your airplane though might have ground clearance issues).
Or an Axi 4120/14 on 4 to 5s lipo.
CG should be set per manual, with all batteries installed and ready to fly.
There are many combinations to choose from, just depends on how much you want to spend on it.

The 4120 is a little light for that plane. The AUW is 7 to 8 pounds. It flies OK, take-offs and landings are great, but the flat out speed is half that of glow. There is just nothing more when the prop unloads. You want at least 700 watts in the air. The Axi 4120/18 and 6 cells into a 13x6 will seem powerful on the ground, but you'd be lucky to get 300 watts in level flight.
There is no electric CG in the manual. Marking the CG with a full fuel tank before it is converted would be the best way. Which on this plane will put you 1/2 inch or so forward of the number in the book. BTW, for the B.H. models Extra 330 it 1-1/4 inches forward of the number in the book.

CG should be the same for glow or electric. All planes are balanced with an empty tank. The plane doesn't know what's driving it. CG on an aerobatic plane should be setup so the plane flies level at cruise throttle upright or inverted.

uhhhh yeah, OK, I guess. Sounds like you have it all figured out!!!!!
8lbs on a 58" model sounds abit heavy to me. my guess is it will fly like Fido's doo-doo at that weight, Guess I'm used to my 3D hobby shop planes.
