Default 2.4 interference

As a member of a club in the process of getting a new field we have been flying electrics in a large parking lot with large lighting poles. Is is possible to get interference from the light poles. I put in a Quaker this morning that all of a sudden went into a down right dive. As soon as this happened I corrected but it was to late. If there is no way to get interference on a 2.4 trans. or receiver what about the speed control or the servos? Electricity and magnetism can cause some strange problems. Any one heard of such a problem? John</p>

You can get interference on all frequencies including 2.4GHz, just a little less likely on 2.4GHz. If any thing gets a short (creates sparks) there is radiation on all frequencies but less on the high end than in the lower end. You are more apt to get interference from reflections on the higher frequencies, i.e. out of phase signals bouncing back from nearby surfaces to the receiver which can cancel out or weaken signals when they are out of phase. Also, shadowing (the blocking by having a conductive object between the transmitter and receiver) is more likely at the higher frequencies.

Who said there's "no way" to get interference on 2.4?

Its much more resistant to interference, and it operates above the freqeuency of most noise sources, but enough noise will swamp any receiver.

No one has ever given even one though about interference from anything using 2.4 we all figured we where safe. Hard lesson to learn. I was using the AR500 and was not more than 300 feet away. Both my antennas where pointing to the rear of the plane. Another lesson, I need more planning on routing antennas and from now on will pay greater attention on set up. Thanks for the replies. John

Funny this should come up as I just came from the field and one of the Pilots was discussing his problem while working in his shop. Now this shop is two hundred feet from the house. This guy was getting all kinds of hits. He has an intercom so he asked his wife if she had turned anything on. To make a long story a little shorter he found that she was using a small (cheaper) paper shreader. When she put paper through it and the shreader started up he was getting al kinds of interference. So, bottom line is yes its possible to get interference. The higher the frequency the more powerful signal is required to cause this interference though.

Hello everyone, this is the first time in this forum. Please forgive me if I make a mistake or break a rule. I need to know where to find this book at...EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT ELECTRIC POWERED FLIGHT.. I have serched Amazon with no luck. Really I just need how to wire my elec. motor with a shut off swich, battery, esc and Rx. If you have any of this information I would be greatful.

Flying NEAR any equipment that causes electric ARCING is BAD BAD BAD. Sooner or later a streetlight WILL start to fail. IT RUNS ON A CONTINUOS ...ARCING.... of the gas inside of the bulb. Flourescents are the same problem. Especially when you can see & hear them screwing up.

Other problem with higher frequencies is " Reflected signals " that are close by. Cars, metal siding on any structure at the field.
The " 2.4 GHZ CONDUCTIVITY of the ground you are flying from. Fine with 72 MHZ.

Worst of ALL !! you have a bad unit that has a MOMENTARY crapout, THAT CAN NOT BE TESTED, or found.

Many are are flown. Only a few crash for no reason...........Life is mainly about being very lucky.

At 72 I still have a full family..........
