Actually Meebo after alot of thought and reading about all the problems with that MX2 i dont think i will get one. My extra 260 is about as good as this plane is. So theres no reason to get one the same.

I actually ordered parts for my rc car this morning so i can get that going again. This time i will install a slipper clutch so i dont strip out the diff.

Not to sure what plane i will get next. I think ill just have fun with the ones i have for a while.

Im still yet to fly the rare bear. Im sure this thing will give me the thrill of my life.

But I sure hope you get to appreciate the 'Bear for what it is.

It's not exactly a World Record beater, that's for sure. But then again, it's not costing you an arm and a leg.

IMHO, be patient with it. Dial yourself and the plane into what it can do.

For a lil foamie running on 3S 1000mAh, it can shunt along at quite a lick.

Be warned - it's deceptively fast. You'll find that out for yourself first time you stove it into the ground at around 90mph [X(]

nah BJ ive been pretty slack on the rc front. Going up to dads on monday so i might do it then.

I just won me eflite park 480 motor for $36. I plan to take the 35-30 1100kv motor off the hyperion snyper and put it back into the extra 260. Then ill install the park 480 onto the hyperion snyper.

Im hoping the park 480 will give me that little bit more punch to do some awesome 3d with the hyperion snyper without it being to powerfull and sucking all the juice out of the lipo.

I think ill fit a 11x5.5 prop on both of these birds. Seems to be the sweet spot for props.

The 1700kv motor in the extra 260 was just overkill. Sure its a blast to fly but i cant do the loopy rolly polly thing with it anymore. I think i will have to install a higher torque servo in the rudder as well. It seems the hxt900's dont have enough grunt to move the steerable tail wheel on take off and landing.

Oh well i have a few projects. Just gotta get motivated and do them.

well BJ i finally got around to building up the rarebear today. Went up to dads and he helped me alot. I think i have the esc and lipo in a good place for the right CG. I just taped on the back tail section for now. I might have to adjust the elevator control rod so i wanted to be able to get at it.

I used an orange rx so that i could set up the ailerons independent. I have flaps set up on it but not sure how effective it was. Once i had the motor going i held it away from dads face and give it a blast and hes like holy hell ill have to re do my hair. He was impressed with the power of this little beast.

I hot glued in a small piece of foam in front of the lipo so that it holds it tight in place inside there. Seems to work well so far.

I have the elevator set up so it set to climb a little. I hope this is set up right.

Should i give it the underhand toss while holding climbing on the elevator stick? Whats the best way?

The 'Bear looks like she's ready to rawk-n-roll :D

As for overhand v's underhand launches, I just found it a bit too fat to hang on to for an overhand launch. And I ended up face-planting mine about 3 times before I switched to underhand, which I found heaps better for me.

A lil up-ele won't hurt - I'm pretty sure you need to set them up so that the ele is a frag up-ele from being dead flush with the rest of the rear stab. You'll soon know if you've got too much up-ele on - it'll climb like a missile. I was quite amazed regarding how a little movement of both the elevator and aileron control surfaces translates into a pretty big movement of the plane.

Your Dad was right too - that prop sure produces some serious thrust for such a little and light plane. Crank her up until you can feel it wants to really pull out of your hand, then let her rip. Careful on the sticks but - as I said, it's pretty lively even with small control surface movements. So be ready to catch any over-compensation...

PS - CG is where those two little pin-holes are in your top pic.

My surfaces are set up this way:

Top hole on the aileron servo horn second hole in on the aileron surface horn - low-rates 60% throw, 10% Expo - high-rates 100% throw, linear Expo.

Second hole in on the elevator servo, second hole in on the elevator surface horn - low-rates 85% throw, 10% Expo - high-rates 100% throw, linear Expo.

Once you've got it up and flying and doing some nice easy circuits, power on out of a dive and hold it level flat stick about 50ft above the ground - then pull dead-vertical right above your head and flick high-rates on the aileron and give it full roll and watch it spin like a top towards the stars :D:D

Im definitely gonna take it easy on this little bird until i get used to it. I feel so nervous but so excited to fly this little rocket.

I forgot to mention also that I finally took my larger hawk 3d out this morning and it did not fly well at all. I have the lipo mounted on the wing. Its almost level with the leading edge of the wing. Im going to try and mount the lipo up closer to the motor and see how it flies then. It does have alot more power with the 3s lipo but the roll rate is not great with this one. If i cant get it flying right then ill flog this one off too. HAHAHAHAHa.

looks like i have the aileron servos set up the same as you BJ but i have the elevator servo set up on the outer hole on the servo arm and on the closest hole on the control horn side.

So it looks like i will have to use lower rates then you do. I like to use alot more expo then that as well to start out with.

So just use a little over half throttle to launch and then a slight toss yah?

Im sure ill maiden it fine but it kinda stresses me out knowing how much power this little thing has.

BTW had to put the esc up the back there as it felt the CG was out with it having it up the front. The orange RX is actually under the ESC. Do you think it will get enough airflow with it being there?

Its a 40a plush turnigy which i think is a bit of overkill on a 3s setup and it shouldnt get that warm anyways.

I might chuck it on the wattmeter soon and see if i can make sense of it all and see what it comes up too.

I'd say somewhere around 3/4 throttle would be more the go on launch.

Just crank the throttle up to full power to get the feel of how much grunt flat-out has, then come back to zero and then keep increasing it until you can feel a good amount of pull - which is usually between about half and 3/4 stick.

What I try to do nowadays is keep the wings as level as possible while getting it up there pretty quickly - doesn't matter if it's ugly to start with, but if you've get some height pretty quickly you buy some time to recover. Be ready for it to drop the nose a tad and fire out towards the left. Bit of right aileron and some up-ele and you should be good to go. If you've got enough power on, you should be able to basically drop-release it with a gentle forward nudge if you're underhand launching it - if the power is up enough, it's going to want to fly anyways, so you don't need to try to javelin the thing out of your hand. Just be ready for the left roll/turn and nose-down.

Re a throttle-switch in a 6Xi, wouldn't have a clue. Just don't push the stick too high during launching and you should be ok. I find that there's not a lot of difference in engine sound on mine from just under 3/4 to full stick anyways, though it still seems to have more pull from 3/4 to 10/10 (which is a bit weird).

The 40A ESC will handle 3S no problems btw.

I was wondering where you Rx was - under the Speedie you say? Hmmm... be careful - particularly with an Orange Rx. Speedies are pretty noisy things as far as RF goes, so I hope you don't lose signal. I just jammed my ESC in the slot provided in the front bay - next to the LiPo. Check your CG, and if it's hinting tail-heavy then I'd be moving the ESC into the slot and freeing-up the Rx.

havent flown it yet mate. Its been too windy up here in NSW. Hopefully over the weekend i can fly it. I think i might have to CA the back section on as just removing and putting on the canopy has made the tape come loss.

What sort of flight times should i expect with a 3s 1000mah nano tech lipo? I dont want it to hit the LVC in mid flight.

I just bought a HTC HD2 mobile phone so im pretty tapped out for now. So ill have to fly what i have for now.

Depends on how 'flat out' you fly it.

I'd set my timer to 3 mins.

Land it - see how much power you have left, and adjust your flight times from there.

But remember, you're going to fly a lot more WOT once you've got it sussed ;)

Nah... still haven't got an mCPx.

Dunno if I ever will - I have my Copter-X 450 if I feel the need to get into 3D Heli. Although, granted, the mCPx would be a better machine to learn on - given its resilience and lower cost-factor if it does end up ploughing in too hard.

That's the thing with the 450 - a "mild" crash and the top-end is rooted. Blades, flybar/rods, feathering shafts, main shafts... *aaackkkk*

Now get that 'Bear in the Air - y'hear?!?!

I wanted to pick up the new 3DHS EPP Edge that's about to be released for my birthday late next month but I'm going out of town from the 14th onwards so anything I order needs to arrive before then.

Trouble is, 3DHS is moving to a new site and all shipments are ceased until their set up so they're not serving customers and their stockist have run out of stock too so it looks like I can't get that plane which I'm pissed about.

I then start lurkin for another plane to get and decided on the Twisted Hobbys Xtra Slick only to find out after stacks of research that they don't ship to Aus.

Arrgggghhhh NO ******* WANTS MY MONEY. Very frsutrating.

I've posted some chit up in the forums so I'll see what responses I get but at the moment it looks like I'll need to pick something ELSE out.

Im thinking i could also goto my local hobby shop and finally offer them money for there tech one mini katana. Now i have 1000mah 3s lipos it would fly so nicely.

Just came up from the 'tomb downstairs' - been laminating a Sloapie wing.

Looks like I've bought another FunJet - though not an Utlra (been looking for a replacement Ultra airframe - mines just about knackered now).

Mirage wreck I scored is almost ready for a duco-job. A bunch of us are doing the 'Fanta' ARDU Mirage III scheme.

Dunno if I mentioned it in here or not, but I maidened my Banana Hobby BF 109 and that Elecro Streak I bought at an auction yonks ago - both flew faultlessly.

Slowly churning through my 'half builts'. Looking forward to flying them.

Off to Temora next weekend for their annual 'Jets over Temora' meet.

MmmMMMMmmmm... the smell of Kero gives me a horn... :D:D

i was thinking about getting a funjet and then i could use my 35-30 1700 motor on it. But im not sure im hooked on these wings yet. There kinda boring. Fast passes with a few rolls thrown in for effect. Maybe a little inverted.

I'm running a Copter-X 3250kv motor through 3S and a 5.5. x 5.2 prop on my FunJet Ultra.

That equates to about 36,000 RPM. And mine is a 'mild' setup.

A 1700kv, even on 4s, would pull somewhere around 25,000 RPM, which might be a bit light-on for FunJet.

One of the 'locals' runs his on some insane setup, and makes mine look bloody slow.

If we get some good flying conditions this weekend, I'll put the radar on his and see what sort of speeds we're really talking about... :D:D

I took my mcpx out for a spin before and went for a swim at the beach. It was so refreshing.

I still havent taken the rare bear out yet. I just got the parts from rctoyz for my rc car so i might rebuild that later and give it a blast.

Man im scared the rarebear is going to take a dirt nap and thats why i have been putting it off. It will only make me super depressed then.

I'd hang on to that $90 until you find something you really want, and fly the stuff you already have for now.

spent most of the day rebuilding my rc car only to find the dual slipper clutch i put it in wont do up tight enough and keeps slipping. The miff diff slipper i had in it before was to tight.

I cant bloody win. I put it up for the night otherwise i would smash it. I will get dad to sort it. I had a short fuse and it will only get smashed.

I just watched a video on the hawk 80 and it shows he uses a 9050 prop and shows his esc and lipo placement so i will set mine up like that soon and see how she flies.

Hmmm rare bear is still a virgin.

I got a cool app for my new android htc hd2 phone where i can fly rc aircraft. Its pretty simple but fun.

Yeah mate, all sorted.

I was really hoping to get the 3DHS 34" EPP Edge before the 14th of October (when I leave town for 10 days, off to Charter Towers for 5 days and Townsville for 5 days) but that is definitely NOT going to happen so I started looking for an alternative. Almost went for the Twisted Hobbys Xtra Slick but they didn't have them in stock but I still really wanted the 3DHS plane.

I worked out a deal for myself :D, do some serious SERIOUS research to see if I can come up with a cheaper set up than using their recommended Hacker gear ($45 motor, $35 ESC and $16 batteries [:-])
I FOUND IT !!!!. The deal was that if I could find a cheaper but kinda equal set up I would buy both the 33" EPP Extra 330 and kit it out with lighting but also get the 34" Edge for day time.

I can get both these planes on the cheaper but kinda equal set up for a smidgen more than ONE of their planes with the recommended set up.

Needless to say I am one seriously happy dude despite the fact I won't get them till well after ma B'day.

sweet meebo. I just bought some new toys as well. A few days i got a new (well second hand on ebay) HTC HD2 mobile phone. I also have a modded playstation 3 on the way as well. Now i will be able to watch blu rays in my room and use it like a media player to play all my movies and the best part is that it will do it in high def. It will replace my original xbox with xbmc on it.

With the money i just layed out i could of bought that hobbyking mx2 and decked it all out with lipos and all the trimmings. But meh.

Sad to say im kinda losing my interest in the hobby i think. Sucks i cant chat to you guys on the rc groups. Jaskel is currently on the job for me. So we will see what happens.

Things might change once i fly my rare bear.

BTW anyone out there playing words with friends on IOS iphone or android. Add stalyoni and lets get our game on.

I think your only loosing interest because you can't get on RCGroups and chat with all ya mates :(, I'm certain that attitude will change when your back. I think from time to time that I may have given up on this too if it weren't for RCG, it's keeping the interest alive with loads of info and an awesome bunch of blokes to chat with.

I'm hoping to have myself an Andriod phone for xmas, depends on what's being released at the time. There the Nexus Prime coming out and HTC haven't done much this year so people are expecting something pretty decent soon and then there's Samsung, there's gotta be a replacement Galaxy soonish. Will wait and see what gets announced in Q4. Can't wait

Bro get a HTC HD7 and put a custom android rom on it and your good to go. Its the best phone out there at the moment IMO.

Its the bigger brother of my HD2. They make iphone look like toys.

Windows 7 OS on the phones is crap full stop. Android or die.

I can tell you my dad has a samsung galaxy S and its not that good. The HTC phones are the best out there.

The only downfall is that android sucks the juice up really quick.

Can you guys start a lets get Stalyoni back on the rc groups thread and make it like a partion page. Maybe this will get me back in.

well i finally took my rarebear for its maiden but it did not go well. Kris told me to give it full elevator up on launch so i did and i gave it a little more then half throttle. Well the thing did a flip and became inverted and boom straight down onto the prop. So im stuffed until i can get a new prop.

Can i use the 5x5 apc prop from my parkjet? I remember you saying the 6x5 prop was the best or something.

I also put the 1100kv motor back onto my extra 260 with a 11x5.5 prop and had two flights with it this morning and it was a blast to fly. Im falling in love with it all over again.

Also had a couple flights on the parkjet. Had one interesting landing. This thing doesnt like doing slow speeds as i found out it will drop out of the air like a stone. No damage though. I think ill put the smaller prop on it and run a 3s on it and see how it goes.

Went up to dads and spent most of the day trying to get my rc car going. One of the gears aint meshing and keeps slipping. Im so sick of it so on to ebay it goes. Rc cars get boring real quick and need alot of maintenance so im over it.

Shoulda seen my first launch with the Hawk .... bwahahaha was freekin hilarious, straight up and straight back down nose first. I gots a whole 3 seconds flight time :eek:

Tis a damn shame poor ole Lockyer didn't get to go out with a bang though [:o] So we got the Eagles and Warriors for the finals, not real sure who to cheer on with those two, prolly leaning towards the Eagles.<br type="_moz"/>

Yah...

Bad luck about your 'Bear, Stal.

I busted mine up big-time - 3 in a row - before I managed to get a decent fly out of it. Bit of CA here and there, and she was sweet. The engine mount is a bit of a bugger to repair if you've managed to shift it off the foam. Just use a small phillips screwy or other blunt shaft to carefully prise the cowl off the fuse. Be patient - work the tool carefully around the cowl, going in a bit deeper each time, until you've freed it from the fuze. When you put it back on again, just use a couple of carefully placed drops of CA around the rim right at the outer edge - so you can free the cowl again should you need to do so. It only has to stay in place and not let go when you seat the canopy piece by sliding it under the cowl and then back again to close it.

They're a pretty flighty lil Bird - go like stink out of your hand, and are fairly snappy on the controls, considering the relatively small control surfaces.

Set it up so that the ailerons are dead flush with the wing, and the elevators perhaps a tiny tad above the rear stabs (for a smidge of up-elevator).

Set your lo-rates to 60% throw, 10% Expo for the Aileron, and 85% throw, 10% Expo for the Elevator. Leave hi-rates to 100%, no expo (great for ultra-snappy moves when you're 3+ crashes high ;) )

Hang in there mate - you'll love this thing to death once you've had a couple of half-decent flights with it. It'll keep you on your toes... :D
