I have finally bought may Vanquish. Had a quick look last night at the hardware.
Has anyone replaced the stock hardware? Are people using the supplied pin style hinges?

Stock hardware is fine. The only thing I replaced were the wheel axles, which I substituted with Central Hobbies aluminum axles for weight. If you want to use pin hinges, the ones supplied are not good. Replace them with genuine Robarts, or cut slots for CA hinges, which is what I did on my second Vanquish. The first shipment of Vanquishes used CA hinges. The stock pin hinges are soft, and will develop slop over time.

Replaced wheel axles (Dubro) and tail wheel (Sullivan) Wheels 2.75 (MPI alloys) Spinner( Tru turn)
with the changes my plane still weighed in at 10.87 lbs.

The stock pin hinges are fine, we use the stock pin hinges supplied with the giant scale E.F. planes with no issues too. This plane will never be subjected to a manuever that will cause the stock pin hinge to fail, in fact I doubt you could get them to fail even if you tried something stupid that you shouldn't be doing with a pattern plane. The only thing that should cause excessive wear would be not lining the hinges up properly when installin them. With hat said, some people just have their own opinion and way of doing things, if they want to replace the stock hinges that's fine, but could you send the stock hinges to me so I can use them on one of my projects?? :-)

I've got a 6-meter wing span (19.6 feet) glider with 3 servos per wing. I use 48-inch leads to my aileron servos. Never used a filter/choke, etc. I'm even using flat ribbon style wire. It works fine. Go figure. This plane has flown with 72MHz, 50MHz and 2.4GHz Futaba radios.

Have a 70" EF Extra that is more than 2 years old, all stock, no slop. I don't 3D it and it has flown IMAC Basic a few times. A quality ARF, good parts. I'm an EF fan as you can see!

I honestly would not worry about the hinges.
They are fine.
Who's to say others won't wear. Theres no written guarantee for any hinge, that it won't wear out.
Just fly the nuts out of your Vanquish and enjoy it . It's a great flying plane!

Just got back from another 4 flights on the Vanquish.
Changes from the last outing:
Decreased the wing incidence to .7 pos. I think I was at .8 or even .9.
Moved the ESC as forward as I could and trimmed the wiring down, saved .25 oz.
Increased the ESC brake setting to 30% from 5%.
Moved the batteries another 1/2" forward.
Reduced the down elevator mix to throttle from 2% to 1% then to 1.5%.
Increased down elevator throw.
Increased low rate rudder throw.
Up lines are straight with no pull to the canopy.
Down lines are pretty much straight.
45 degree upright down lines hold straight
45 degree inverted down lines still have a slight pull to the canopy.
Knife Edge flight holds straight, no mixing
Inverted flight is solid.
What is next to be worked on:
Need more elevator for spins. Full elevator the plane just mushes through.
Need to work on stall turns with better technique. I think the rudder throw is fine.
Landing approach, the plane floats well and I may need more brake or even droop the ailerons a tad to slow it down for spot landings.
What I like:
The Vanquish is very true in the air. The view of the plane is vey easy to see and wind correct.
Power on the Dualsky 6360-12 with the APC 20.5x14E prop is very good. 3/4 power verticals with 2 rolls is easy.
Snaps, upright and inverted are clean and stop immediately.
Spins stop immediately.
Overall I am very happy with the aircraft and I think I am in the final stages of trim. I am not a fan of using switches, but I may need to use one for stall turns and spins.

Great report! It would be interesting to me to know what your final CG is with the .7 deg wing incidence. Thanks if you can post this at some point.
Ugh, that rudder! I have 100% throw all the time with 60% expo (switch-less stall turns). YMMV as you have the larger rudder version, I believe.

I will check the CG for you the next time I put it back together. Honestly, I just follwed Brians trim chart. All was good except I had some pitch in KE. I moved the batteries forward and the KE pitch was gone. For some reason I thought I was carrying a tad of down elevator trim which in the trimming charge Brian said that was normal and to adjust the stab incidence to match the elevator. After I moved the batteries forward, elevator trim was 0. That is why I think I am very close with the trim on the Vanquish.

Hey guys I figured I would post my setup for everyone again, I fly with three flight modes, here it is:
2M Vanquish (One of the first planes with the integrated cowls) - Torque Silver Bullet - APC 20.5/14E - E.F. Elite Spinner
Guided by- JR 11X DSMX
RX- JR 921X DSMX with 1 Satalite RX
Servos- Ailerons JR 9411's with plastic gears
Elevators JR 3421's with plastic gears
Rudder JR 8411 with plastic gears
RX Battery- Thunder Power G6 2S 900mah RX pack with Castle Creations 1 AMP BEC for 6.6 volts regulation
Flight Packs- Thunder Power G6 Pro Lite 5S 25C 5000's
Speed Control- Castle Creations ICE 2 HV 80
Plane is built using all stock hardware, I didn't try to save any weght anywere because I wanted to show that with the basic equipment above te plane will make weight.
Weight with batteries: 10.7lbs.
Wing Incidence: +.6
Stab Incidence: 0
CG:
My CG machine is broke, just for reference I have my batteries as far forward as I can, front corners touch both sides on fuse on battry tray, I'll try to post a picture of this. I have no elevator trim at this CG and Incidence settings, the plane requires very slight push to maintain level inverted flight and the 45 degree inverted upline CG test shows exactly what it should, the plane holds a 45 inverted at full power for several hundred feet then starts to drop towards the canopy. I found that the plane snaps better and breaks better on spin entry with the more forward CG, with the incidence set where it is it does not feel like a nose heavy plane though, I'm very happy with these settings, though I never settle and will always make minor adjustments and tweaks here and there but this is what has worked great for me so far. (Your battery positions may vary a little because my plane is one of the first with the integrated cowl, not sure if the latest version with removable cowl and different canopy will change things a little, regardless overall weight of the new version is same as the original version)
Mixes:
Down Line: Throttle/Elevator- 1% down
Rudder/Aileron +2 with left rudder
(Those are the only mixes I have in the plane!!!)
Aileron Differential: 1 degree less down than up in all flight modes.
Normal sequence maneuvers:
Flight Mode Position 0: Ailerons- 11 up / 10 down - expo +35
Elevator- 9 up/ 9 down - expo +18

Himax 6330-210 motor installation
I decided to use a Himax 6330-210 motor. As it turns out, the firewall blind nuts did not match the Himax mount. No big deal. I simply epoxyed in wood dowels and recentered the motor. I did add cooling holes to the firewall. So far at 93F outside temperature, the max motor temperature has been 116F and battery temp of 118F.

Prop Drive Adapter
I am using a 3" Tru Turn FAI spinner. The Himax shaft is 6mm but only extend approx. 3/16" into the prop when using the TT light back plate. The supplied Himax prop bolt and washer does not have enough thread length to engage the motor shaft. I made up a prop bolt with 5mm shaft end threads and #10-32 spinner end threads to interface with the Tru Turn spinner. I use JB weld epoxy to join the nut with the extension and 5mm shaft bolt. Also I only had to velcro the Pheonix ICE V2 80 ESC to the bottom floor plate. I did use a tie to make sure it does not come off.

FWIW, I mounted the Himax using the existing 3-hole pattern on the firewall and the EF supplied spacers (rather than using the Himax X-mount). Made for a quick, light and clean install.
