You guys think the 3m nylon canopy bolts(thumbscrews) will hold the canopy on the Vanqush?

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Hi guys,
Need some help with the elevator servos. I've got JR3421's that are supposed to fit but I'm having trouble getting them in due to the grommet/servo wire. It looks like the opening in the stab rib is 'just' big enough to fit the stab case, and there's only a narrow slot to allow for the servo wire. May I ask how people have slotted in their servos (i.e. what process you used to get your servo in there)?
Thanks,
Ken

Use the Dubro Super Strength arms, I used the shortest arms and that is what we recommend in the manual, you may have to open up the holes in the stab a little when using the short arms.

Is anyone using the brake setting in the ESC of the castle HV80?
Does the plane require the brake setting for the down lines?

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
I have an idle up which I activate before take-off. This usually stays on throughout most of the Sportsman sequence. Sometimes I activate the esc brake with idle down and throttle off, if I need to slow a downline. Idle down and esc brake are most useful to me for landings if the approach is steep or fast on final (or unfavorable winds). Nice to have on a switch if needed, and fine to leave off for most downlines, I guess it depends on what schedule you are flying and prop choice. The brake is 25% btw and the Himax motor comes with some recommendations about esc settings too.

I think a lot of it depends on your flying style. If you fly faster and larger, you might want a brake. I personally used the brake on my Vanquish, but it is a personal preference. I know others that don't use it, that don't have an issue. I think it is a personal feel thing. Try it and see if you like it. I would not run more than 30% though as you will start to get the squeal from the ESC above 30%.

Hi,
Just finished my vanquish & have put 4 flights on it using some
Old TP 10s 5000 packs. Am running the torque motor with a schulze
32.8 esc that ran fine till I tried a new pack tonight (nanotech 2x5s 5000)
Running up on ground from 3/4 throttle up the motor made screeching
Noises that make me think the timing is off. Is this possible when going
From an old to new pack & does anyone know what switch to change on he
Schulze if it is a timing issue. Put 1 flight in withe the old pack tonight
Before running the new one & it ran fine.

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread
Bad problem, the threads for one of the set screws in the horizontial stabilizer were bad and would not accept the screw. Repeated efforts to install the screw damaged the threads beyond repair and I have managed to get the set screw stuck wit the head flush to the horizontial stab. I'm hoping Extreme flight will sell me another stab but was hoping maybe someone knew the name of this part ( the aluminum set screw assembly) and where to purchase it. I think I could remove some of the sheeting on the stab and replace it if I could find one. [&o]

A little tip I use.
Always pre-run bolts into blindnuts prior to mounting. That way you will have no suprises, in case a blind nut is cross threaded or screwed up. It happens.....
Its easy to cross thread those bolts because you dont have much room under the stab, specially if your hex driver has a fat handle.
I ground off one of the handles on a hex driver for the bolts to the landing gear, I couldn't reach them.
You might have to get creative too. Anyway..good luck thats a toughy.

Anyone know where to buy the aluminum stab adjusters used in the Vanquish. I tried the gators but the diameter has to be at least 1/4" to fit over the tubing and the gators were too small. I've had no luck locating the ones used in the Vanquish.

Any one with a stab for sale maybe due to an unfortunate experience or even the stab adjusters out of it?

Is the set screw an allen head? And did that strip out as well as you attempted to remove it? If it isn't stripped yet, try heating the steel screw with the tip of a soldering iron. Heat should transfer to the ally adjuster and expand the hole ever so slightly more than the screw. It might free up. If that doesn't work, you may drill the screw; if you can get the drill bit to bite, it just might turn the screw all the way down into the adjuster opening. I haven't seen how the adjusters are set up so I may be speaking out of school on this.
One reason why I tend to make my adjusters from phenolic stock rather than aluminum. Ally will gall if given the chance

Thanks guys, the screw is a set screw (no head) into an aluminum adjuster. The screw siezed just as the head became flush with the stab.Repeated efforts to remove the screw damaged the adjuster severly, (drilling etc). I didn't think of heating with the soldering iron which may have worked in the beginning of the problem. The problem is the only stab adjuster I can locate are the gators and the diameter for the tube is too small, the vanquish has a 1/4" tube that the stab adjust on. I thinking maybe I can modify a gator wing adjuster by cutting a block out of hard plastic (cutting board) or maybe even a hard wood and tapping it to achieve an adjustable mount with a movable center section. Extreme RC says they have stab replacements on order but no delivery date. They have no idea of the location of a replacement adjuster. Plane is ready to fly...less one stab[&o]
