Hey Guys,
I'm just wondering if anyone is seeing a difference in the receiver's reception in their electric models when the antenna is inside verses outside the fuse? I am asking because of some problems I have had. I lost my electric Black Magic at the beginning of the season due to radio problems. I had 16 problem free flights, then flight number 17 had a glitch. Flight #18 was the final flight after a range check with the motor off that seemed fine. After taking off, the plane lost the signal and went in the ground. The antenna was mounted inside the fuse. The radio was a Futaba 9CAP and a PCM receiver (129DP). My next plane, a converted Silhouette was having what I considered to be a poor range check. I had a Futaba WCII radio and the 9C and tried a 129DP RX and a 146IP RX. I range checked it with the motor running this time and only got about maybe 40-50 feet at best. I chose not to fly at that time. After talking to some folks, I decided to try just routing the antenna outside of the fuse. This seemed to improve the reception quite a bit and I probably got 80-90 feet before losing the signal. It seemed to work fine until I ran into that other plane[&o]. Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing a difference. The Silhouette never seemed to have a problem with the antenna in the fuse when it was glow.
Thanks,
Emory.

I am running the antenna internally, and get a good normal range check with or without the motor running. There are a number of posts on this forum though about people having range/lockout issues with electrics.
9WC2, R319DPS Rx.

Oh, BTW, all of the radio gear I am using is either new or recently back from a check up at Radio South. I was just kind of wondering if this is a trend that I just haven't heard about or if this is isolated.
Thanks again,
Emory.

I'm running the G3/14MZ setup in my Partner/Hacker combo without problems and with the antenna mounted internally. At the advice of one of the factory pilots, I have a Futaba choke between the Hacker speed control and the Rx. I have my Rx mounted about an inch behind the rear of the batteries and have my battery connections at the opposite end of the batteries, away from the Rx. In addition, my antenna is routed away from both the rudder cables and long leads to the stab-mounted servos. The long leads are routed through retainers so the can't move around and get near the antenna. It's been solid for about thirty flights so far.
