Hacker outrunner mount
Has anyone seen the Hacker outrunner mount that is pictured in their manual? It looks like it might pick up the shaft with some kind of bushing or bearing or maybe just provide a limit on how far the shaft can wobble or nutate. I was wondering if one should build something like that into one's plane.

Jim,
I've been running the A60-20s at 8000 RPM on 18" glow props with no problems thus far (50-60 flights). Motor is simply mounted to the nosering, and is very smooth and consistent.

Dave,
Could you please share some information regarding your set-up, i.e.
Actual prop used, current draw, relative performance.
Your application of high speed, smaller propeller is somewhat different to the common trend in electrics.

68 amps.
7900 RPM.
CC85HV (std timing).
TP 10s4p 5300
~3800 mah for PO7, 9 minutes takeoff roll to touchdown.
~80F (27C)
I have not run any of the low KV setups as I've no interest in the very slow pitchspeeds produced. As fast as the electric setups are evolving, it is very hard to keep track of all the new developments, but compared to the electrics I watched at the 2006 US Nationals, the A60-20S setup has substantially more speed, and I'm not seeing any lack of thrust in uplines with snaps. In comparison to the "common" setups, I am quite certain I am using less throttle in horizontal lines for the same speed, similar throttle in round looping segments, and slightly more throttle in uplines. My new planes (Prestige) should be ~9.5 lbs (4300 grams), so I expect the vertical performance at partial throttle will be substantially improved compared to the "test" plane (10.3 lb / 4700 gram Abbra).

I assume you have been flying this combo for some time without any problems? This would be great news, confirming that Hacker has under rated their outrunners. The A60S series is rated at 1900 Watts max for 15 seconds and 50 amps max for 15 seconds. My experience shows peak power is used for about 8 secs max but the duty cycle is quite high. In other words there isn't long periods between peak current bursts. Sounds like the A60S will do the job and save some weight over the A60M I bought. I don't plan to run anymore power than you but I did select the lower Kv in order to use the larger props.
The reason for my question on the mount was due to the fact I've heard about three outrunners tearing up or almost destroying airplanes with slight unbalances.

Jim,
Yes, around 50 flights on the A60 between 60 and 70 amps. Max temp I've seen on the can is 140F on a 90F day.
I've not run the softmount on the A60 yet, but don't expect any problems as the front mount A60 should be less load on the mount than the rear mounted Plett I have run on the softmount.
