How many amps are you pulling with your 4S Hextronic batteries?

Keith, WOT is 48 amps. The Torque is warm but passes the 5 second test. The CC 45 is only slightly warm. The batteries are warmer but not dangerously. In that 4 minutes, I can do 3 inside loops, 3 outside loops, 4 point roll, knife edge flight, cuban eight, double immelman, and a double stall turn easily. 4 minutes is longer than you think.

Thanks for the right thrust suggestion, for some reason I thought it was built into the motor box. . .
.
I guess I'm trying to get too much flying time with one battery - probably an old glow habit. I'll try four minute flights with one battery and see what temp they get up to. I have ordered two of the HexTronic 4S-2200's so that will give me four batteries to fly with. I have accumulated three Lipo chargers, so I think I could keep them flying and charging simultaneously.
.
How long does everyone else set their timers for when flying their Vanquish, and what size batteries are you using?

My favorite battery for this plane is the Thunder Power 2650 Prolite. It is a 4s2p config. Spinning the 11x5.5 APC-E prop I get flights in the 8-10 minute range.

Has anyone tried a TP Extreme 3300 in one of these? Not as light as the prolites but more capacity without having to charge two packs.
Trying to figure out an affordable way to get into a practice plane.

Hi Guys,

My Vanquish shipped from Chris yesterday, very exciting. He was good enough to subsidise freight to Australia (current deal he is doing) which was mighty good of him!! I am buying to practice my F3A patterns, flying advanced at present so I need 7-8 mins per flight (would prefer 10 or so)

I've got a motor around the size of the recommended one so I thought I would try this one first before buying an other motor. It is an Hyperion Z3025-10, specs are: 815rpm/v, weight 186gm (~6oz), length is 50mm (excl shaft). I have a CC 45 that I plan to use. So to my questions:
1. I'm not sure how to mount as I haven't seen this part of the build on the thread, can anyone advise or send a couple of pics please? I'm also not sure if my motor is longer or shorter than the Torque model recommended, can anyone advise?
2. Battery 3S or 4S? 4S would get me up to 480 watts, while 3S would produce up 350W, I'm thinking I would need 390 watts for a 1.3kg model to have excellent vertical performance? Do I go with a lighter 3S or the grunt of 4S?
3. Battery capacity? I used a 3700mah 25C pack with this motor previously and it was excellent, would this be too heavy?

Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

All the best, Simon

Hello Simon,

Congradulations on purchase of VERY nice plane, im sure you will enjoy it, first thing you have to do is setup it right. I spend allot of time by picking up right packs , so i try to make your and other people choice easier.

1. I never had such motor, i hope you can put it on nose of vanquish with no problems. One think you have tyo keep in mind, is right CG, since your engine is already 186g and Torque 2814T/820 is 143g so you will have 43g on nose, this can be problem by setting up right CG specialy with noseheawy plane. Anyway here is my vanquish motor mount with motor in place, as you see motormount is made for backmounting:

I made measurments with cowling on top, so it might be wrong by few mm, but you should get main idea. Hole in front of Cowling is ~ 35mm.

2. This depend on what you want from plane, if only pattern and little 3D flying go with 4S this ans ~APC 12x6e prop (This is setup i fly). And if you wan't 3D go with powerfull 3S pack (Flight power EVO 25 should be best option), but for 3D plane must be light and your extra 43g on engine will make big difference. So in your case i would pick 4S pack, with right setup you will get unbelievable vertical performance.

3. Capacity, i use 4S Flight power 2500mah packs that are ~268g. Again because your heavy motor you will have some problems with C.G. But if you planning only pattern flying probably front CG will make not much problems for you. And 3700mah will be to much specialy 4S pack, what is 3700mah weight? Remember Vanquish is small plane, so don't make it to heavy.
With 2500mah packs, i can fly P07 sequence with no problem and when i land plane still have ~20% of pack left (in calm day). Personaly i love most FP Evo 25 2170mah packs, they are just 226g, and with them i never use full power, and vertycals up are faster than verycals down! Also 3D characterystics are much better, but flying time is ~ 6min. So your choice depends on what you expect from plane. Here are example of P07 seq with 4S 2500mah pack:

Besty luck,
Donatas,

Hi Donatas,

Thanks for your detailed response, much appreciated, it is very comprehensive. I think you are right about the length & weight of the motor becoming an issue, I think I will need to get another motor to suit this plance. I will take your advice and go 4S aroud 2500mah, your set up sounds perfect for what I am wanting to do with this plane.

YOur video is great, thanks for sending that.

All the best, Simon

No problem Simon, some people help me with good advices that save me some time, i feel i must do same. If its possible then use Torque motor, it will fit perfectly and you get very nice performance. Im sure eveyrone in this forum agree with me that quaility of Torque motor is top notch! It run very smooth and have allot of power, and affter hard flying it come down almost cold. Also 4S 2500mah setup sound very good. CC 45a esc work perfect, i use it to. In one word great setup.
Only one thing i change is RX power, i use two separate ~400mah lypo packs with two regulators. This is just for 100% safety, also with 4S lypo esc don't have BEC.

Best luck with your Vanquish, and don't forget to use HS65mg (metal geared servo) on elevator!!!
