Toxiris ARF

1 Attachment(s)
My new Toxiris arrived today! DHL delivered the plane safe and sound after a 3 day trip... not bad! The box was in perfect shape.... after lifting up the cardboard top I was surprised to see the lower cardboard box lined with light ply on the outside to protect it even more. See the pictures for more detail... you can see this plane is BIG!

I weighed all the components and they are as follows:

Fuse - 1130g
Left Wing - 390g
Right Wing - 380g
Wing Tube - 50g
Left Stab (and tubes) - 115g
Right Stab - 100g

Parts/Accessories Bag - 415g

I plan to use a Plettenberg Advance motor (595g) and all Futaba servos/RX (total of 180g). TP5000 batteries (1170g) or TP4400 (1040g), F3A Unlimited RX battery (45g), Digiswitch and regulator (15g) and probably a Jeti ESC (120g) - weight should be in the 4880g range. This is a great looking ARF and I'm really excited about it and can't wait to start putting it together. For more details see the [link=http://www.toxiris.com]Toxiris[/link] website.

Hi Derek,

Do each of the small wings weigh 50 grams? If so, then that would add about 200 grams to the weights you posted, right? That would cut it really close to the weight limit and may not allow you to run 5000mah batts in competition. And I believe the propeller and a couple of 1 meter servo extensions are not yet included also.

Hi Jayjay,

Actually you can't see it in the picture but both winglets weigh 50g - total of 100g for all 4 of them.

Out of curiosity, why does the carbon reinforcement inside the fuselage right side different from the left side?

No problem, Chris. I'm done with the wings and just about done with the stab - next stop is the fuse (the gear is already installed). I'm heading out of town for Thanksgiving but hopefully should be close to being done in the next several weeks (I still need to get the ESC and they are out of stock).

No idea...

Maybe it's to compensate for Derek's unequal left/right/positive/negative snap setups? :D

Thanks for the info Derek. I will be getting one very soon as well and am curious as to how it flies. Keep us posted.

Are you considering importing them Derek?

No... you need to contact Roald Dogge at [link=http://www.toxiris.com]Toxiris[/link] to purchase the plane - he is the importer.

I'll offer up an idea on this. As I found out with my Opium, there is more pull on the front left of the fuse from a rear mount type of setup like with the Pletty Advance. I actually pulled the side of the fuse inward and it put a dent there on that side. Had I reinforced that side, I don't think it would have happened.

As I say, it's an idea..

Best airplane you've got is that Phoenix 7 in the background!

Derek,
Looking at the picture inside the fuse toward the tail, i can see the inner fiberglass layer that present a non uniform colour.
I have the suspect that the lighter areas could have a weak bonding to the foam. I hope it's only a matter of light effect instead.

And if I could find the time to finish it what with all the other planes being built!

Roberto,

I hope you are wrong! :D It seems pretty stiff and there doesn't appear to be any breakdown of the fiberglass in those areas.

I personally have seen that with the flash of the camera before. Does it look a uniform color when you view it normally Derek?

I finished Jon Carter's up for him. Send it to me and I'll do the same! They're just too much fun not to have flying.

there is nothing I do not like on this plane, and if it flies just 50% of how the toxylen flies... it will be a winner. Even though Mayr took the Toxiris to the worlds he never flew it. can't wait for the flight reports<div>

Sometimes the airex is a little rougher, or more porous, on one side than the other which gives the "patchy" look when using a light layer of glass on the inside. I imagine the camera flash enhanced this also.

I agree, it is a cool plane Tony. I have Jon's Nutcracker on the bench. I'm gonna get it built for him and I think he's going to paint and cover it. Haven't built an old school plane in a long time. It's hard to get my hands inside. haha

Looking forward to checking this Toxiris out in person. Looks nice to me. I would probably leave the wing can's off though. Be interesting to try it both ways though and see what they really do.
