RE: E-flight 160 for a Brio ??
Hi Guys,
Just a quick update... I went with the Hacker A60-72V2 for the motor but that is as far as I got. I never ordered batteries or started on the conversion... Been fishing a lot with the kids on the weekends and really have not had time. I will post back when I start the conversion. |

RE: E-flight 160 for a Brio ??
Hey guys,
Didnt want to start a new thread so hope you all don't mind if I ask a Q here. I have a 110 size pattern plane (3 of them), one is powered with a YS1.20 currently being rebuilt and it was very well powered with that engine. Im thinking that I'm going to convert it to E power and was wondering if the following set up will work: Eflite Power 90, or Power 110 Castle HV80, or the HV85 6 cell 5000 mAh packs, or 8 cell Have only flown smaller E powered planes soother options, suggestions, or ideas greatly appreciated. Will gladly repost or move this if this is the wrong place for it. Thanks guys. Mark |

Mark:
I have just finished an E-flight Power 90 conversion on an old Desire . The Power 90 is a good option for a 110 size plane weighing around 8lbs. On an 8c setup with a 17x10 APC it produces 1800 watts (225 watts per pound) Zippy Compact 5000 mah. Here are some pics, showing the installation and cooling ducts. The batteries and ESC are just warm after a 7 min run. The motor at about 60c, which can be reduced with a front baffle . |

Here are some more pics showing the cooling ducting and ESC mounting in the vacant pipe tunnel.

Rodney,
Thanks, that's the sort of info I'm looking for. No need to run a larger motor if it isn't needed. I figured I would need at least 1600-1750 watts to pull the plane well. It's an older design, the Dream 110, but it flew so dang well on the 1.20 I figured I'd stay with it to enter pattern. I haven't weighed it in awhile, but IIRC it was at about 8 to 8 1/2 lbs at that time. The bottom cowl runs from the nose to the wing trailing edge so there looks to be plenty of room to fit everything in there, just need to add some cooling air exit holes. What size/brand ESC did you use? Thanks RT. Mark **Just saw the additional pics RT, that was a tight squeeze getting it all in the Desire. I'm pretty certain I'll be able to get everything located underneath for and aft of the gear mount! Thanks again for sharing the info, much appreciated! mk<br type="_moz" /> |

ESC: I started out using a Castle Ice HV80 which stopped working after three runs, so will be sending it to Castle to check it out. Meanwhile I am using a HK Sentilon 100A HV, shown in the pics, which programs easily with the card for voltage cut off and so far works well on the default settings. Mine has a number of upgrades not shown on the HK site, but they still call it a version 4. To save time when arming the system then securing the four canopy hex bolts I used an Arming plug from F3A Unlimited. |
RE: E-flight 160 for a Brio ??
Interesting RT, I was looking at the HK Sentilon this morning, and the 1.10 equivalent out runner also (this is a trial n error thing for me so less $ is a good thing)! Since I have to make a decision this week (love work and life schedules eh!) I think I'm going to go with the E flite Power 110' a Castle HV85 (possibly the Sentilon 100 though), and most likely the Rhino 8 cell 5000mAh packs. Appreciate your time and feedback very much RT.
