I have been in RC since 1979 and I have owned many airplanes (and helicopters) over the years, from trainers to turbine jets and the Winds is hands down the BEST flying airplane I have ever owned or flown for that matter! Just love it! I have 25-30 flights now and it just keeps getting better!

Just test flew Dad's new Wind 110 today and I am amazed how well it flies. We had 25 mph winds and it did not bother it at all.
Need to see how it does on a calm day but as of now I have not added any mixing and not sure that it will be needed.

I'm lazy so just cutting and pasting from the other forum:

Here is what I plan on fitting inside the Wind. It is a Neu 1512 / 3.5D (1450kV) motor with a 6.7:1 HD gear box (P42). It should easily swing an 18x12 at around 60A and 7700rpm on 10S, and quite possibly a 19x12 at 70ish amps. I don't have a scale here but it supposedly weighs in under 18oz. I'm working on a custom carbon soft mount. Nice thing is I don't need to cut anything inside the plane, not even the firewall, so the Scorpion or Hacker will still fit in the future. I'll post more pics as I make progress, which will be slow as I'm moving. I'll weight everything too.

Here's the pattern for the mount (rear and front). Will need some standoffs to properly space motor, and will get some vibration isolators.

lol, sorry for the redundancy. don't plan on doing that much, just thought this can be pretty useful for someone. i heard off-line about more problems with scorpion and hacker in this plane, so if this is successful it will be a good reference.

I'm a Hacker guy. If the outrunner doesn't hold up, I'll get a Hacker C50 10XL for it. Heck, I had one for several years in an IMAC plane. I know it's a good 8S motor.

I considered one of those but was scared off by the price. Only did the Neu 'cause I got one 30% off they had laying around. Not sure what it is with the A50 and the Wind, but Hackers definitely kick some butt from what I've seen at contests.

Knowing what I know now, I'd either go the A50/8S route (most likely), or go with a Neu or Hacker inrunner. I actually thought about just getting the A50 but really didn't want to buy a new fleet of batteries with the motor.

Has anyone experienced a shaft failure on the Hacker A50-16L ?

It is a clean shear at the front where the clip is located. The motor has had about 220 flights and is mounted in the standard manner.

Hey Al,

I went with the stock Hacker setup (A50-16L) and 8 cells. (Two Rhino 4S 4900's). Everybody has their favorite servos and I have had good luck with Hitecs. I used 7985's on the ailerons and rudder and 5245's mounted in the stabs. The openings inside the stabs needed to be enlarged slightly with a file for those to fit. I mounted the rudder servo in the tail after reading through this thread about where guys were positioning batteries, etc.

Interestingly, my spinner backplate was warped so that was the reason I switched to the Tru Turn.

I saw my first Wind at a local pattern contest, Murray Johnson brought it to the contest. Loved the lines and the way it flew. Kept reading all the great reviews in this thread. Bought the ARF last fall and stalked up on the parts to finish it. Started teh build about a week ago. Close to being done. The only real quandry has been the motor. I really like the set up with the scorpion but read about all the propblems with the magnets dropping. Keep waiting for the revised version with the mechanical ring to come out.... but I am still waiting. I am starting to lean toward the hacker. In the meantime the pattern season starts soon, with the first contest about 4 weeks away. I was going to drop in the back up motor, a turnigy 5065 but I have reservations.
The plane is fittted out with spectrum servo's 6010 on ailerons, 5040 on elevator, and 6020 on rudder. Using a Castle Ice 80 HV. Have a digi switch with 2S2P 800mah battery. Main batteries are 2-5000mah 4S packs. So far I only have the one set as I am trying to figure out if the final motor will require 8's or a 10's. Prop will be a 18x10 or 19x10. Plane is just about finished. I did enlarge the intake and outlet openings to improve cooling. Just need to do up the bullet connectors and do the final program on the ESC. Should be ready to maiden on the Easter long weekend. I'll post pics when done.

You plane turned out well. Let us know how the maiden flight turns out.

I considered some of the other motors as well but in the end just went with the hacker. Flying season is fast approaching (on the calendar at least..not so much with the weather) and I just wanted to get it done and ready. The build (maybe assembly is a better term) went pretty well. I made a few changes just for personal preference like bigger CA hinges and different control linkages but I'm sure all the stock stuff would have worked just fine. I was a little disapointed to see that they had removed the covering from the slots for the T canalizer behind the canopy. I thought it was an optional thing and I wasn't planning on using it. Put a piece of trim stuff on it to cover them up.

We're supposed to get some better weather next week so maybe I'll get the maiden in then. Good luck with yours.

What charging adapters and extensions are guys using to charge the zippy 5000 8s batteries? I have the Cellpro 10s chargers. A link for purchase would be great.

Verne Keoster figured this out for me...

I am going to use the Thunder Power 4s adapter:

The JST-XH female connector will be the end that plugs into the JST-XH balance tap on the Zippy.

I am then going to use an extension that will go from the above adapter directly into the Cellpro.

The end that goes into the Cellpro will need to be modified. I believe just the clip will need to be removed so it will fit into the charging port of the charger.

Seems like you're still going to have a bunch of spaghetti to charge.

I don't understand why revoletrix won't take my request to have the batteries balance using a wireless connection seriously! (jk)

Yes, I agree, still spaghetti , but getting the board out of the way gets us one step closer to wireless nirvana :)

Acutally, considering the amount of guys using the same packs over an over, I don't see why revolectrix don't put out the plug that goes into the side, so we can fit, say a 4s female straight on and have neat charge boxes?
