All sorts of people in forums make propellers go round. We need to look beyond things and take it as it is, face value only. Each day its a war out there at work, a hobby ought to ease the tension. :)

I am still trying to decide which servos to use on my Wind 110 .
Would realy like to install them in the stabs if it wasen't too much reworking.
I understand the DS3421s by JR are a drop in.
How much reworking is required to install HS-5245MG in the stabs?
If you have any other suggestions or better ideas let me know.

I used the Hitec HS225MG which has plenty of power for the stabs, just a light rework with the file on the ply mount will see them fit. You would have to check the Hitec site for the size for the HS5245.(It's the digi version of the 225)

Ok I just checked it for you it is the same sze.

Smitty,

If your going to use the 225s in the stab get yourself the digital version. The original 225s don't center well.... or at least mine don't.

I did maiden mine yesterday. Unfortunately only 2 very short flights even with the perfect weather. The filed we usually we fly at is shared with delta trikes and the weather was perfect for them too ...

What is important that it is really more than enough power with 17x10 on S4035-250. Unlimited vertical on 70% throttle and the motor was barely warm Just did some minor trimming 2 clicks up (my CG is at 180mm and I think it can go back another 5-10mm) throws as per manual with a bit more of expo. Flies nicely, rolls nicely and doesn't want to land :). It took a lot of runway to land :). I did not experiment with the progressive brake yesterday. Very much different feel to Ms Wind50, it reminds me very much of Element 30

The way I look at it now having both Wind 110 and Ms Wind 50 is that the 50 is better in low wind while my guess is that 110 will be much better when the wind picks up.

The readings of yesterday were: 54A, 39V and 8000 rpm with TR Light Electric 17x10 really good power. Mine came at 4400g with Rhinos 4900.

Great to hear Velco.

I had mine out over the weekend. Started experimenting with mixing- my mixing is different than the manual - I need a few percent DOWN elevator with rudder for KE flight. KE also needed 2% aileron mix, same direction as rudder. Also mixed in down elevator for both high and low throttle settings for up and down lines. Last, mixed in 1% right rudder with throttle. Holy CRAP was this plane flying nice!!!! Amazing. I love it more and more each day :D

Now all I do is dream about flying and can't wait to get out again :D

Good info sounds like I made the right choice in the wind 110e.
What servos are you both useing and what voltage regulaters are you using?
Still gathering up parts to complete mine thanks for any info you can share.
Can't wait to fly mine.

Hi smitty.559,

I run InoLab HGD 650 HB carbonite gear on the ailerons and the elevator and HGD 760 MG on the rudder, great centering and precision while I think that resolution on the 650 might be better. I am considering putting Futaba 9650 in the horizontal stabs.

As voltage regulator I use PowerBox Digi Switch with voltage regulator. This unit is very commonly used also on 2x2 models.

I am using Airtronics servos, I'll have to get you the numbers later when I'm home.

Using Tech-Aero regulators - very small, light, and reliable. 2 regulators, 2x 400mah 2S lipos independently run to Rx.

I definitely agree with Joe on the dual regulator setup from Tech Aero. Hard to go wrong with redundancy. I've seen switches, regulators, and batteries fail more often than anything else. This eliminates that problem altogether.

Gees, I'm all giddy about this airplane again and can't stop thinking about flying it [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Sad that the season is coming to an end, I was really having fun watching the plane fly through the bigger intermediate sequence. I think the plane was disappointed I was limiting it to Sportsman, and now it's finally in the right size pond.

Heard back from Castle Creations about the Neu 1917 motors - asked which would be appropriate and got this as a response:

Joe,
The motor I would recommend for your set up on 10S would be the 1915/3Y. You should go up to the 20x12 prop to be more efficient, because you would increase overall rpm's. We have not received the full information from Neu Motors on the 1917's, this is why they are not in the Prop Calculator, but based on our knowledge of them, the wattage of them would be too high for your controller to handle effectively. You did not mention what type of aircraft you have, so I am going off of a general set up for you.

I watched one this weekend fly in Masters, it had plenty of everything to do so. Once in the air you could NOT tell it wasn't a 2x2. I was completely impressed.

RE: Sebart Wind 110

I have about 40 flights in total over the last 11 months. The magnets in my 2nd Scorpion S4035-250 motor came loose after the 2nd flight yesterday. The first one was having the same problem after about 20 flights.

I have been very conscious in using the 2nd one after the failure of the first one. I even changed i to ceramic bearings before I mounted it to the plane. I checked the temperature of the motor after each flight (never higher than 125 degree F).

The motor was swinging a 17x10 Turnigy electric prop with 10s 5000mAh Turnigy lipo battery, 100A HV Turnigy Sentilion speed control. My watt meter shows 63A in full throttle on ground test. Most of my flight time would be in ¾ throttle.

Joe seems using the S4035-210 with no problem. I will ask Lucien of Innov8tive if he can send me a 210kv when I send it back for repair.

Supposedly all Scorpion motors made from now on have a built in ring, built into the case, to keep magnets from popping.

That being said, the 210 is AWESOME!!!!! Ok maybe despite the strange noise it makes [&:]

RE: Sebart Wind 110

Hello,

I have put some 10 flights into my Wind110 so far and there are some positives and some negatives, as always :). First of all I am delighted with my setup (S4035-250, 10S 4900, 17x10) as I have been constantly increasing my flying time and it seems that 10 min is really no issue as I have been putting back in some 3500mAh.

On the other side it will need a lot of trimming and mixing. I did not turn on any mixers yet as I wanted to understand in the best possible way what is the natural tendency of this aircraft and so far in KE its pulling towards canopy and rolling opposite from the rudder. Downlines are OK while I will definitively need more right angle trust in the motor. I hope I will be able to correct it without the need for mixing thro-rud.

Unfortunately the season is over, this was probably the last decent weekend this year, so it will have to wait :). In the mean time most probably I will change the servos and run Futaba 9650 on the aile and horizontal with BLS 451 on the rudder.

One more positive is that it was reasonably windy last Sunday and it was really OK.

RE: Sebart Wind 110

I had the same couplings: pull to canopy in KE as well as roll opposite of rudder input in KE. Only took 1-2% mix to fix. Been playing with throttle-rudder mix, not sure what I think yet...

Glad you like the plane, but you will like it even more once you get comfy with it! :D

Played with the 110 this weekend too, nice practice toy. 4400 gr with Rhino 4900 10s and C50 14XL Rasa Mag5 (20*16) prop.
No mixers needed. I did set the motor at 0.5 degrees upthrust.
Conclusion. Good but not superb. Light on the wing, heavy on the fuselage. Not as good a balanced model as the Wind50 or the PRO.

RE: Sebart Wind 110

Couplings.. rudder tracking in knife edge is also dependant on your CG. Google for 'brian hebert triangulation trimming'. With some CG adjustments, it'll track straight, not needing a mixer, on one knife edge, while slightly pulling on another. Also it'll have a small rudder/roll coupling on one KE side.

I had it pretty neutral with 2 mixers, rudder->elevator and rudder->roll. Both being small mixers, like 1 or 2%, on a futaba radio. This goes for all three I've had and flown.

Futaba S9650 as wing servo works fine, I've flown about 400 flights that way, but they lack speed/torque for a crispy snaproll. I replaced them with Futaba BLS 153 (brushless succesor of the S9650, slightly faster and stronger) and that did the trick. If you're buying those servo's new now, I would consider buying the BLS 153.

Someone asked me earlier why I didn't fly the 110 anymore.. I lost the last one due to a failing Emcotec DPSI dualbat. It switched itself off in the air, leaving me without any kind of control. Luckily this happened during a spin, so I didn't have to walk far to collect the remails. I have flown somewhere between 1000~1300 flights on this airframe, and lost 3 planes while doing so, no other damages. The first I lost due to a failing receiver lipo. The second one was 'pilot error', not in steering, but in timing, I was flying with hyperion packs and if they are empty, they are empty.. the third I lost due to the failing Emcotec.

I won't be buying a new 110, since I just purchased the WindS Pro 2m, it's full-size brother.. or more like nephew, since the WindS 110 isn't actually a WindS, but an Angel.

RE: Sebart Wind 110

Hezik great info! I was really wondering if the 9650 would have the speed for snap in the aileron but I thought that since you did more than 1000 flights and you did not mention anything I thought must be OK, now I know :), thanks again! Also I have seen some guys during EU champs in Austria to run 2 9650 per aileron!

So it will be BLS 153 both for Wind110 and Sickle in the horizontal stabs, and ailerons in the 110. Will you also stick with BLS 451 on the 2m bird or something stronger like 351 or 352?

Velco

RE: Sebart Wind 110

Velco,

I would consider something larger on the ailerons on the sickle. Yes, the torque is there, but I'm not the gear train is really designed for a 2m aileron. That is a lot of area out there. The BLS551's would work much better on the 2m Sickle.

Velco 11-22-2010 02:27 PM

RE: Sebart Wind 110

Arch yes, BLS 551 will definitively go on the Sickle for the ailerons, just edited my previous post. Thanks for noting it to me!

RE: Sebart Wind 110

The BLS352 is excellent on the rudder for a 2m bird. The 451 will work, but the 352 has a lot more torque.
