Default Training "Balls"

I noticed it really doesn't seem to matter what heli these are on, those balls are "justa" bouncing and a swayin in the wind! I'm going to try and find something that maybe lightweight and "oval." If I could find this and make a gear where as the oval is facing vertical, it could be more resistant to vibration. ya think? Orrr what about and extra wide set of landing skids. That may be even better and more stable.

Maybe some of you guys who have no life can come up with something

the Training gear should be about 3/4 of the rotor blades full span give or take and have somethig light on the end not to dig in on landing like a pingpong ball ... I used CF rods ,,, size depends on size of heli .. good idea would be the same size Rod as the tail boom supports

Cyclic Hardover,

As RussWisc mentioned, with CF rods bigger in diameter than what you currently have. However, I don't think you'll get them to be rock solid and not vibrate at all. There's alot of force coming from the main blades, it's not the rods causing the vibrations, it's the size of the ping pong balls or whatever you come up with. The smaller the better. Best thing is to look around the kids toys at a mall somewhere and get some ideas there. Hmmmm, something smaller than a ping pong ball, that is the question?

Hold on, I'm thinking.......................................... .......................................... Got it!!!!

Just use some metal coat hangers with the ends made into a loop, you'd have to construct a center point for all four to meet and connect to. Probably a small piece of hardwood. Here's a picture of the idea, it's only a mock up, of one hanger. But should work and give no vibrations. Also, forgot to mention, you can make them any length you want them.

Let me know if you consider it and if you do, how it works out,

Cyclic Hardover,

My orignal idea of the coat hangers, would more than likely get snaged in the ground or carpeting. Here's a modification to the modification. Add, plastic tops from water or pop bottles. To keep it from sliding around you could use wheel collars.

See pictures of the modified mod. [8D]

I used practice golf balls and 3mm CF rods to make mine. They dont seem to be heavy because i have had them on my DF22E and my DF36 without any problems. They also dont wear out on concrete like ping pong ball will.

I think round tubes of any kind are not the way to go. Got to come up with something else in shape that will resist flexing. Sort of like taking a yard stick and it wil flex easy one way but not another. I am sure hobby stores wont have whatever it is I want. I may cruise Lowes or Home Depot tomorrow

being a civil engineer I can tell you that for long spans the most stable shape is either the I beam or a box beam. I know that you can get square tubing in aluminum or copper from a hobby store, try that out and let us know.

Simple answer is no. If you are getting excess bouncing of your ball's, perhaps you have a vibration problem somewhere else on the chopper. Either that or you need to tell the missus to leave ya alone while your flying

Cheers guru

I dont "think" its excessive but distracting. Here's a thought. How about removing each skid tube. Replace it with a same diameter of a plastic tube. Instead of curling up the front end of it as normal, form it out to the side about 45degrees for an inch or so than then curl it up. Do this to each corner and would be sort of like a simple but wider gear. Sort of like your coat hangar thing.

Would eliminate many pieces. Would help prevent rollover. Sort of an intermediate setup when going from balls to stock

Well I almost had it. There it was in a cheap dollar store with my wife. She says "why are you staring at those?" I've been in the store for 20 minutes and your still staring at this!". She was referring to a set of those plastic coat hangars that I could cut into nice tubular strip. They looked closed in diameter so for a buck, what the heck. brought emhome and the diameter of the skids are about 221mm and these were 260. So--she took them!
