Default Sniper Jet

Anyone have any detailed info on the Sniper Jet that Hobby barn is importing. The website only links you to the manufacturers so I don't know the list of required accessories or whether the kit is A.R.F. or A.R.C. I guess I could call Hobby Barn. This little jet looks awesome! Dom

Let us all know when you get it what comes with it! The orig snipers were sent without any instructions, thrust tube. I only know of 2 other retailers that have TAKEN the time to make a detailed build manual, include the thrust tube and upgrade the decals <white version> that is RTModels.com and warbirds-rc.com

Just food for thought BW

When I spoke to them they said it was a complete kit. Comes with fan unit all for 199.00. They said that they are updating the manual and it will be included with. Said it will ship Monday. They still have the White with the orange and blue striping. Looks like a nice kit. Saw the videos of it flying. Fast and great vertical performance. Will let you know when she comes and what all is included. Thanks, Dave.

BW,

Not really sure what info HB will have with theirs. Our manual was done in a step by step and comes on a CD disc that has over 225 pictures on it. Each and every step was included in the build and is very complete. Or kits will also include the thrust tube stock and a military decal set for the white version. Credit does need to go to Carl who also did the build manual for the HET-RC Sniper AND FA-18 & Skyray for Markos and myself.

Both myself [link=http://www.rtmodels.com]RT Models[/link] and Markos [link=http://www.warbirds-rc.com]Warbirds-RC[/link] will very soon start a replacement program. For example: You have a crash bust a wing where do you get one? no problem both of us will stock replacement parts for our customers Fuse, wing, stab. Just going the extra distance for our customers. We both fly the producs we sell! A lot of info can be seen over on RCGroups.com on the Super Sniper. And we now have over 2000 postings just on the FA-18 alone over there Tons of info [8D]

If anyone has any questions feel free to call or e mail me info is posted on the website but feel free to check out the threads over on RCGroups.com

No matter who you get one from you will have a very nice flying EDF ARF.

Thanks,
Mark

Got my sniper today. Very Very Nice!!!!!! Packaged well. Everything fits great. Had her built in about 1/2 hour, not including the time for 30 min epoxy on the wing halves to dry. Instructions came with but not as detailed as Mark says his will be. But more than enough to build her. nice Quality paint work, very nicely done. No thrust tube but I purchased the material last nite to make one. No biggie, just roll up some lexan around the rear of the fan, stick it in the tail opening and tape together. Tape it onto the rear of the housing as you do the front. Am looking forward to flying her. Ordered the Mega 16/15/2 and Thunder power 2100's for her. They won't make it until next week though. ): Going to home depot now to buy the materials for the bungee launcher. You won't be disappointed with this kit.

how are you going to get 35 amps out of that Thunder Power 12 C battery?[X(]

The Mega 2 turn will definately pull that many amps in the 480 fan.

Good Luck

Larry, if you read my post you will see that more than one pack is being used.

Dave, I read your post (several times) and it never mentions 2 packs. Sorry I pi$$ed you off. Thought I was helping but I guess you don't want or need help.

Pardon me,
Larry

BTW,Wish I could build mine in 30 minutes

Must be in Yer choice of words. I've read a few of Yer replies to other posts and came away with the same impression. I think that's why they came up emoticons.

Have a good one....

3S2P lipo 2100/2200 and mega 2 rurn is an excellent combo for the MF480.I have the same setup on a FA 18 and on a F4D, the 2 other arf from HET.

What is the difference between the Mega 16/15/2 and 16/15/3?

Which would be better suited for the Sniper?
Would a 30A speed control be enough or would I need a 40?
Thanks.

Dirtypool,

The Mega 2T would produce more power in watts using a lighter weight battery. You should fly it on a 40-45amp ESC and at least a 3S2P ThunderPower 2100 Lipo Pack or equivalent. The Mega 3T requires you use a 4S2P pack to produce decent results for flying, somewhat close to those of the 2T but still less watts; this would however require a higher priced battery as it would require one more set of cells( to make it a 4S2P instead of 3S2P), along with require a more expensive ESC capable of using a 4S Lipo pack or equivalent cells. I hope this helps you with your decision.

Yes, thank you. It stopped me from bidding on a 16/15/3 on ebay.

If I don't have a lipo charger, can I use standard cells? I see that Cheapbatterypacks.com has a 10 cell nimh pack built to your specs. I realize that it will be heavier but I havent jumped into the lipo arena just yet.
I assume it will be equivalent power with a shorter run time. Correct?

What are some of the more popular ESC's in that range?

Thanks for the info
Rob.

Rob,

You sure can use the 1950 FAUP Nimh cells...I have bought my share and they work great, but your flight time drops to about 3 1/2 - 4 minutes. They make a custom pack that works just fine and is about 1/3 the cost of lipos.

As far as ESC's go, the ones being used with that motor include the Hacker Master 40-B, Kontronik Smile 45-6-12 and Castle Creations Phoenix 45. All three are good ESC's...I have use the Hackers and like them only because I have the program box and can customize settings easier to include advancing the timing one degree at a time for fine tuning to each jet.

So will I be able to get around 100mph with the sniper with a 16/15/2? Is a Mega the best fit for this plane or how are the other brands like Hacker, etc?

Are you guys Bungee launching or do you have gear installed?

Thanks.

Wow, Carl.

I just saw your video from earlier today showing your sniper flight.

That thing was flat out screaming!

Excellent flight.

Was that a dolly launcher or just skidding across the grass? Sorry, I'm new to EDF's

Mark @ rtmodels.com just posted a new video of Pascal's 101 mph flight today his is on 12 cell faup's I spoke with Mark a few days ago and there is some testing going on with the new lower cost HET-RC 2W and 3W motors. Quite a lot cheaper than Mega lets hope they are as good.

dirtypool,

Actually, that video belongs to another flier and I am just hosting it for him, however, they all seem to fly the same...very well! As far as motors go, you can spend as much as you want on Hackers and Kontroniks motors, or stick with the Mega which is working well. You would probably get even more speed on the better motors, but would have to add the weight and extra batteries, along with a different ESC that can handle more than 12 cells or a 3S lipo pack. Let me know what you decide and we can give you options.

Cya,

Carl

Sorry Pascal, I didnt mean to take credit away from anyone. My mistake. I dont know why I thought it was Carl's.

Anyway, I think I will probably go with the Mega or the HET RC's if they turn out to be comparable in performance.

I might go with a larger ESC if it will keep it from getting so hot.

Let me know if this sounds ok. Mega 16/15/2 or equivalent, Cheapbatterypack.com's 10 cell FAUP pack, Hitec servos (mg or karbonite) and hitec 555 receiver, and possibly the Phoenix 60 or 45.

Thanks for all of your help.

I am flying the Mega 3 turn in my Sniper , with a Castle Creations Phoenix 35, and a Polyquest 4s1p 3100 lipoly pack, the Sniper just barely balanced with the pack under the canopy, I had to add 1/2 ounce weight at the tailcone. It would have balanced if I had mounted the elevator servo behind the trailing edge of the wing. This set-up flies the Sniper beautifully, mine weighs a little under 36 ounces RTF, with a Koolflight Bec in the canopy area.I bungee launch and estimate the speed to be around 100-110 mph, I get a good 8 minutes of flight with battery to spare, and the cells come out warm. I measured the Amp draw and it was 28-29 amps static on an Astroflight Wattmeter. Good Luck ,Jack.

JUST FLEW MY SUPER SNIPER TODAY, THIS THING FLIES GREAT AND IS WORTH THE MONEY,ONLY PROBLEM IS IM RUNNING A 16/15/2 MEGA WITH 2 THUNDERPOWER 2100S AND AND A 70 AMP JETI SPEED CONTROLLER, ON THE THIRD FLIGH THE BATTERIES GAVE OUT,THEY WERE WIRED IN PARRELEL TO GET THE 4200 MAH AND DOUBLE THE C RATING,BUT THEY GOT SO HOT THAT THE LITTLE TABS THAT CONNECT THE BATTERIES TOGETHER MELTED, I CHECKED THE CELLS AND THEY SEEM TO BE GOOD IM NOT SURE TO USE THSE BATTERIS AGAIN BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT BATTERIES ARE OUT THERE THAT HAVE A HIGHER C RATING. THOSE 2 BATTS. TOGETHER SHOULD BE AROUND 42 AMPS OF DRAW BUT I PUT THE AMP METER ON MY SET UP AND ITS STAYS PULLING ABOUT 42 AMPS FOR A WHILE SO IM AT THE LIMIT OF THESE THUNDER POWER 2100 3 CELL. ANY ONE USED THESE BATTERIES OR ANYTHING ELSE LITHIUM WISE FOR THE MEGA 16/15/2, WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP, TED
