Default Help with EDF set up.

I have flown my HET F-18 for the past couple of days on this set up. It does fly really nice on it, but I am looking for more. It has the fixed landing gear on it and I want to keep it that way. Here is what I have,

Kontronik FUN480-33 motor, Castle Creations 45Amp speed control and 3 cell 2100 mah 20c high discharge batteries.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thank you

Kenny:
A 4s pack will pump up the watts significantly. Vertical perfomance will improve as well.

Kenny...

Do what Greg said and you will have an animal! Just make sure your ESC is running by itself to take advantage of the higher cell rating that you get with no BEC power to the receiver. This will require that you use a small, say 270mah battery pack or BEC eliminator for your receiver, but the performace far outweighs the small added weight.

Thank you both. So I can use the 45 amp ESC with 4 cells? What charger is good for 4 cells? I currently have the Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite that only does 3 Cells.

I think the Triton is limited to 2 amps max charge rate? The Astro will do up to 8 amps which is nice for larger packs. Of course 1C is the charge rate limit for any given lipo pack.

45 amps is going to be really close with that motor on 4S. Do you have a whattmeter or can you borrow one? Check it on initial draw then after a couple of minutes of run time. With lipo's the current draw goes up as the pack gets warmer and the voltage gets stronger. Is it a Pheonix 45?

If you can install it behind the motor without adding to much battery side wire to reach your packs that would help if running right at the 45 amp limit. I've got a pheonix 45 in my Sniper - 3S2P 4.2 AH pack with a Hacker 8L. Same class of motor but slightly hotter for good performance on 3S packs. My current draw is right at 45 once the packs warm up and the Pheonix is surviving fine mounted in the airflow behind the motor.

One more thing - you should be using a 4S2P 4 amp hour or greater pack for 600 watts.

The Triton is limited to 2.5A/4S max on LiPo's - the Astro 109 have more muscle for approx the same cost but is LiPo only.
4S LiPo and 480-33 is a killer combo, you'll be looking at 550-600W depending on how well the LiPo pack hold voltage while under load.
