Tianci, do you know what your AUW was. I want to be able to have a responsive light feeling plane. I'm not into lead sleds.

Maybe I should get another Stryker?
Rino ... I gave mine away but am currently building another for my pal, I still have my other motor and all so I can weight it this weekend and see what the AUW was. She flew like a lead sled for sure!

Hmm, I wonder what a Funet would be like on 4s with a Mega25/3 and a 7x7 or 7x8 sport.

7x8 55 amps 142 mph pitch speed 99 oz thrust. It should climb as fast as it is horizontal.

Hi Guys
I am in need of some advise from all you leccy experts
I have just finished my funjet with the following setup

Flightpower 2500 3cell 20c
28-47-2700kv bl motor(purple power)
45 amp speed controller(purple power)
6x4E apc prop

I havent got a watt meter and was wondering if the chosen prop would be ok and what sort of performance i would be looking at.

Many thanks to you all
Rob

You should be OK
You can also try APC 5.5x4.5 little less amp draw little more speed.
If the plane is straight stock with no add ons (carbon fiber etc.) you will be in the 80-90mph range
6x4 will give more thrust for climbs
5.5x4.5 is balance of thrust and speed
6x5.5 would be max for your ESC and batt.
I don't have a watt meter, I just touch and feel. Make sure you balance all props.
With a larger ESc and larger batt. ma you can push more amps.

Is this motor rated for 4-5 cells?? If yes then you can Really get things screaming

Hey all you guru funjetter's, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope santa brought you all some FJ's under your tree, for the next year's flying season!....
Got a question for you, in your opinion, what is the set up for the FASTEST FUN JET SETUP??? Motor, Esc, prop, & lipo battery???
Thanks Paul

I'm in...

Motor Scorpion HK 2221-12
Value Hobby 4S 2200mh
Scorpion 35 amp ESC v2.

Scorpion motor calc states amps in the 21 amp range with APC 4.7x4.2

Bench tested on APC 4.7.425 and was getting close to 39-40 amps.
Bench tested on APC 4.75x4.75 and was getting 42 amps.

This was on a fully charged pack. Looks like I may be pushing the esc a bit on the 4x75x4.75.
But this is not average voltage. I wonder if I will get some unload in flight.

Still have not maiden. I'm hoping with in the next day or two..

Fastest? Look for those guys in RCGroups who fly 6S at 175 mph etc. For me the FJ fuse is not made for speed. I have gone 6S and its a waste of time. Wing loading is bad and I am only running on 6S 1,800 mAh packs ... for a hot 6S set up you want to run no less than 3,700 mAh packs ... you can imagine the wing loading. I would say best set up is a 3S 2,500 mAh pack with something like a Mega 16/15/3. You can try 4S too with a 28mm motor of about 2,300 KV. I tried all the above set ups and I still say its most enjoyable with a 3S set up and the Mega 16/15/3.

Here is a pic of my pal's FJ, I just built it for him. Its got a Mega 16/15/3, DualSky 60A ESC and will turn a 5x5 prop.

tianci, do you know what the speed is? I am running a Mega 16/15/2 ,80Amp esc 4S 2350 lipo, 5.7X3 apc, and it seems pretty quick. Climb rate is BALLISTIC with the 5.7X3! I haven't radar'd it yet, but plan to do it soon...Paul

Paul ... I estimate about 85 mph on level flight but I am very conservative. Maybe 95 tops. I may be wrong as I am conservative about speed. Your 16/15/2 set up on 4S is nuts! You must be pulling about 60+A with ease. I am kinda tired of pushing planes like the FJ hard, its pointless. The diminishing returns are very real ...

Example ... on a 4S set up I got like around 750W ... I went to 6S and got like 1,100W ... increase in speed? Maybe 20 mph max ... but the wing loading suffered and handling was not that nice. For me ... 3S to 4S max with light motors. Then you can zip around fast or cruise around slowly to enjoy how smooth she flies.

I hope to maiden her this weekend and will get a video up. I finally bothered to use YouTube! Heheheehee ...

Tianci, yeah, this plane is NUTS! But, it is soo much fun! I am drawing right around 80 amps! I think the speed is probably around 100-110mph. I hope to radar it soon, and will let you know what it's mph is.
I was making a speed pass at about 50 ft altitude, and just started a turn, when the FJ looked like it EXPLODED in the air, right in front of me! Shocked, i just watched as it tumbled to the ground! ..Out of the corner of my eye, i saw something fly forward, and heard a "thunk"....When i walked over to the FJ, it was FINE, no damage at all! What happened, was the velcro holding down the lipo was gone, and also the battery! The battery fell out, and being tail heavy, the FJ just tumbled end over end! Would you believe we CAN NOT FIND THE LIPO!! a bunch of us guys have looked all over, for that battery, and can't find it! it was a fairly new 3300 3s...DARN!! He-He, another tale for the FJ record book! Paul

I got my maiden in. I got clocked a 92mph on dive into a level pass with the APC 4.7x4.2 Fast enough for me..
The APC 4.75x4.75 was more thrust but did not feel as fast as the 4.7x4.2 the radar guy was not around at the
time with this prop. Maybe next time.

Flew mine for the first time today, went great on first flight, on the second just before I was about to land it spun in, reciever is dead but not certain yet if that caused it.

My nose is broken and front part out of shape, how can you get it back in shape, can it be heated, or one of our guys mentioned putting it in boiling water

I'm not sure about BOILING water as the foam may swell. Try 105 degrees first then slowly increase the temp. Dip the foam for 5-10 seconds then try to reshape. Hold the shape until it cools. Go slow and start with low temp and increase by 5 degrees until you get reshaped. you will have some faom swelling but you can sand into shape. It will most likely make the foam more brittle.

I'm running a Mirco Dan 2800kv on mine. I have turned up to a 5.5 by 5.5 on 4 cells with no issues. Motor is under 100 deg. and so are batts. Runs a 60 amp ESC.

I would have run a hotter motor, but the 2221-12 was what I had on hand. My 4 cell batteries are 2250mah at 20C.
I can only get 45 amps continuous out of those. I'm happy for now at 90+mph and everything runs cool.
I was turning heads at the field with a foamy. LOL..

I was flying the FJ today, and on a speed pass, it made a horrible shrieking noise, and something came apart, and fell onto the runway. I coasted the FJ in, and when I looked at the bird, there was nothing on the back end of the motor! The motor shaft was broken clean off. I walked down the runway and picked up the prop, and when I looked at the prop collet, it had a gouge in it! It looks like when it "shuddered", the collet caught on the hold down screw, and snapped the motor shaft. I called Mega motor usa, and they said I have to send it to the factory in the Czech Republic! (i'm not to thrilled about that). So it is in the mail to them now...... Now, I need a motor for the FJ, And I am thinking of ordering the Mega 16/25/2 to try it out. I was running the Mega 16/15/2 on a 5.7X3 prop, 2350mah 4S drawing 83 amps! We tried to radar it sunday, but couldn't get a clock on it. When I get it flying again, I plan to put some aluminum foil on the wing leading edge, so i can get a better "hit" from the radar gun. Anyone know of any motor that compares with the mega 16/25/2 for a cheaper price??
Thanks, Paul

Ok here's a list from high to low

Medusa research V2 line of motors
High End Tech. ....HET
ARC..... I think they are HET made but lower price ...same quality...not sure and I have not used them. I have seen them in action how ever.

Update from my post #362.... My lost 3300 mah lipo has been found!...... My friend was "weed wacking" the grass around our perimeter fence, and as he looked down, low & behold there lay my battery! It landed
WAY BEYOND where we were originally looking for it...about 70 yards from where the plane came down!
And, it is in good shape, except for a few scratches, all the cells were still at 12.2Volts! Life is good!

16/25/2 is a 2650kV motor. Is that what you are looking for?

A 5.7x3 on a16/15/2 would draw 140+ amps on 4S.... Your battery couldn't deliver that much, only 83 amps as you say. You are pulling over 35C at 83 amps!!!! You have killed that battery and are lucky you didn't have a fire!!!! You're also lucky to still have a ESC....

A 16/15/2 is designed for a 4.1x4.1 on 3S.

If you are going to run a 2350mA 4S you should rethink your motor and prop combo. I would consider the Ammo 28-45-3600kV motor from Tower too...

I have ordered this motor: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4200 and a 40 amp regulator. I will be running 4.1-4.1 prop and 2200-2500 3 cell 30-40C lipo. From the reviews of this motor this shoulg give me 30 000 rpm+ at about 30 amps on that prop. I will also test out 4.5-4.5

I know this is not a extreme setup, but I hope it will give me a fun, relatively fast and light wing loading Fun Jet. It doesn`t cost a fortune either

Any comments regarding the motor?? Too weak, to high kv...????
