I am building an old Combat Models A-10 Warthog. I am pouring much time and money making this thing as scales as possible. Building the thing is a problem, being able to fly it is. So with the building I will be looking for an EDF trainer too, but that is another thread….
It is am all foam kit originally designed to have a .40-.50 pusher mounted on the back end of the fuse, between the dual rudders. With a little work ducted fans can be install instead.

Obviously these stats were produced well before today’s high performance EDF technology. In my research I found Electric Jet Factory owned by Robert Wagoner. He produced conversion instructions for EDF installation for the CBM A-10.

Even now the above link is very dated so I contacted Robert and he was kind enough to spend quite a bit of time with me over the phone and emailing me updated info on what equipment should be installed.
2 Hayoe 3.5" EDF
2 HET 600-32 brushless motor
2 HET TS-72 speed control
1 - 6S-5300 Lipo ( or 2 - 3S-5300)

With this as me base line to begin work the first thing will be laying the carbon tape and glassing the foam parts.

Please, one and all, feel free to leave comments or suggestions. I have not purchased ANY electronics yet so if you have better suggestions about what should be installed, please do!

Gene did a wonderful job and it flies well. Robert really knows his stuff too. I can't comment on the motors as I don't know about them - but with 90mm......I don't know if a single 6S pack would be enough - usually the amps are pretty high in these installations.

Oh yea - don't be too suprised when it turns out heavy. I think 8+ lbs is normal for these. 1st nobody knows how CBM got it that light and 2nd A-10's notoriously turn out tail heavy for some reason and need nose weight. Keep that in mind when you build it and place your equipment.

I have the combat models f16. I started working on it about 3 yrs ago, but after the first few weeks decided i wanted an A10. Over the last 2 years i designed Aprox. 1/9th scale warthog and finished the last molds a few months ago. Everything is molded on it except the main wing wich is a foam core for now until i decide to finish that up as a molded part. It has a 72" wingspan and will weigh in at about 18 lbs. Like you, i was going for full out scale appearance. I think i got pretty close. Right now i am looking for a few fast builders to get some testing done on it. I have one that i will hopefully be flying in a few weeks but would like to get some other thoughts on it. Not sure yet how much i would sell the beta kits for but it would probably be around half price. If you know anyone that would be interested?

I talked to Robert at the ejf about 3 months ago and he wanted to sell it. He has to be one of the biggest warthog fans besides me. I have not talked to him since but may see about the offer again if my other deal does not do so good. Really nice guy to talk with.

I think they are going to be around $1200. Pricing is not figured out yet. Still need to figure time and materials. All parts are molded except the wing ,which will hopefully be molded soon, so there will be nothing to build. The first few , will be sold cheaper and will have a foam core wing which will need to be built up.

Go with 2 midifans (alum. spinner) and the Medusa afterburner motor. This will be an 8 lipo cell setup for each motor. Check the thread on rcgroups "midifan/10 lb thrust. I'm thinking about an A-10 also. i love the way the jet flies on my simulator. This midi setup is a low cost 8 plus pound thrust power option.

I'm not sure you could fit 16 cells in the CBM.

cgrcjet , I got a freeby at my club one day . A fellow RC'er was getting out and I picked up this Combat Models f-16 kit . It says you can set it up for slope or nitro . I was thinking electric . I would like to set it up for slope but don't know much about it . If I could go 5s I bet this thing would scream . It seems pretty heavy duty . Did you ever build yours ?? How did you power it ??? Looks like a lot of work but its different from wood and I think it will be fun to build . Any tips or pics of your build wood be helpfull . That link to the website looks to be dead . Thanks
