What Radio set to buy, I been flying the parkzone RTF I want to build a ARF and learn to fly 3Dfoam and hover it someday looking at the Futaba 6XAS. I would like to buy a radio I can use now and build on it as my flying skills grow, that said is the Futaba going to fit my needs ?

I have a Futaba 6EXA and it works just fine for me. I will never use all the features for sure and it will fly all my planes. The one your looking at is about the same but looks to have the module for all the frequencies which is a nice feature. My question to you would be are you ever going to use more than 1 frequency if not I would get the cheaper 6EXA.

If you're going to get the best radio you can afford, get the best radio you can afford. The 6XAS is a fine radio, as are several other models in that range. There is also the 6EXA, the 7C, as well as the Hitec Eclipse, which is popular among electric fliers.

I would think that you wont need anything above 4 channels for a long time. But, if you want to get a 6 channel right away and spend that kind of money now, then get a Hitec radio. There really nice. I have a flash 4, and it works great. It has a lcd with the voltage, and you can have 5 models saved to it. It has digital trims, and the sticks are adjustable to the height you want them at.

I have been researching more, I think a 4 change radio is all I would need, I understand that some of the planes require some mixing setup can you recommend a radio that has the properer receiver / servos for small foam/parkflyers ARF kits. Should the receiver and servos be micro?

Here is a link to the Flash 5 transmitter which should fit your needs. It comes with a Hitec 555 reciever and HS-81 servos all of which I have used in my park flyers.

I have the basic Futaba Skyport 4 with a Hitec Electron 6 reciever and HS-55 servos. You cannot go wrong with either of those companies. The reason i got the Skyport was because of its cost and its 4 channels. If I were you, I would look into getting a Hitec radio. Their recievers and servos are the BEST!!!

If you are going to get a Hitec Flash 5.....get it from hobby-lobby.....they sell it with hs-55 servos(lighter weight and cool blue color) i think its like 179.00 or something like that. I bought a flash 5 it does all im gonna need for a while and it was alot cheaper than others. The only thing that suks is when you want to change your saved model, you have to turn off the radio then change it then turn back on.....that gets anoying if you have 4-5 planes

whatever your new radio is if I heard you say 3D flying you need to get at least a 6 channel with dual rates and more importantly exponential rates on at least 3 functions..
I bought a 6EXA futaba and enjoy it very much..I am sorry I didnt go to the 7C..I also own a 9C and at first it intimidated me.but so didnt pc's and now I cant imagine not having it..incidentally if you get a JR or a futaba you can swap out servos etc.meaning you can buy just the tx if you have rx and servos laying around..
