I bought an R/C Timer brand ESC , 40 AMP. I know where the big red and black wires goes, but it has 3 big black wires coming out of the other end that I'm sure is for the motor, but they aren't labeled which goes where. Being an retired electrican for a power company I thought maybe it was like a 3 phase motor, you could put'em anywhere on the motor and if it ran backwards just swap any 2 leads. Am I correct or dead wrong, would appreciate any help. Thanks

It doesn't matter how you hook up the 3 wires to the motor. However, if the motor runs backwards, and your ESC doesn't have programming to reverse it, just swap any 2 wires.
You are right, brushless motors are basically AC motors and have no polarity issues.
