I do Magazine design & layout!!! I have all my own equipment in my home office, You provide the Text and photos I will create your spreads and send them back to you. I worked for a RC industry Magazine that has now gone under and I currently am looking for some work. I did the whole magazine, All the Advertising, complete layout, complete design, picked photos and even wrote some articles, samples can be provided upon request. I also have been building RC Aircraft, Boats And Helis for the last 20 something years. If you are looking for some help with your project give me a PM! I'll get it done within your budget and on time.

What happened to them? I currently work for a media company and had considered starting an RC boat magazine after I could not find one. We created some editorial calendars and started researching advertisers but put the project on hold for now. Is there just not that much demand? no advertisers?

I feel you.
I have been trying for over 2 years to get published. I have built and/or assemled over 50 aricraft in the past 4 years. I have designed built and flown 6 custom aircraft in the last year. I can design and complete most airframes in about 4-5 weeks depending on design. I have approuched several magazines in an attempt to write about builds, designs and so on. Offering them a new project each month. They seem to busy to respond.
Any thoughts or advise on how to break in to this industry would be appreaciated.
Have you considered a web based magazine. Very little cost. Probably.
If you deside to create such a publication would you contact me. I would like opportunity to bring a little more wow factor to this industry. Most of the publications seem a little mainstreem to me. The art of creation and building appears to have been for the most part, swept aside.

Hey romi
If I should I would be happy to include your articles
I do not know what to tell you except that I thought that all of the mags were always lookin for content I know that we were. but I do not think there is money in web based mags how do you get the ads? as they can advertise already on the web maybe I will look in to it. and yes most want to just fly the era of building seems lost but I know many still do and love to see it so don't give up!

If your publication has meaningful content and attracts readership, (can be tracted with counters) the advertisers will want links on your site and you get paid when customers hit the links tabs. Everytime someone uses a link you get paid. This was how a tech buddy explained it to me anyway.

I would just look in the front pgs of the mags and look for the art director or they sometimes have a blurb about who to contact to submit things but looks like you may have already I do not know anyone else You should have a sample article ready to go with all you piz, captions, calouts etc. type out and ready to send out.

Hi Jcopter......a few years ago I was in the beginning process of starting a mag for RC aircraft called Flyboy.....I was going to pattern it after on of the adult mags....I am sure you can think of the name. Anyway what I thought was to have attractive girls on the covers with the aircraft and design the spreads to include tips and tech, people, places and things, flying oddity, center spread photo display and records broken as some of the departments. One thing I really wanted to do was feature a specific person in the industry or a company that has done a lot or not so much other than be a modeler.
I never followed through because I was an creative director and national ad agency and when I realized the time commitment I got scared. I like to think that if was live now there'd be modelers that would be getting in hot water with the wives.
My suggestion to you is try to d it on the web as a blog and let it build.......good luck Nubbs

I think the answer here is to create a new website specific to build projects and design along with ARF builds and flight tests. There are many people willing to help out with all parts of this.
Gather a dream team of people on here starting with web developer, graphic designer, build a list of article contributors.
Too many magazines come and go but develop a large group of followers to an online website that shares a variety of interests that keeps people coming back day after day and a money making website is born.
Everyone has a job to do and there is no startup costs accept domain and hosting which are cheap. Profit share to all involved, keep the number of people to a minimum to keep things simple.
Pull your own weight or your out.
If you have a product that everyone wants to see and you give it to them for free and keep things interesting then the people will flock. If you have the people numbers then advertisers will follow.
I would even take care of the marketing end of the site and get the advertisers.
Anyway this would take some planning and co operation but it could work if people agree to work together as a team.
No sense trying to find a job not knowing what can happen with it week to week when you can create a business that makes money forever.
