My friend decided to install Honda CGV160 engine to 38% GP Extra 330S. 4-stroke, overhead camshaft....

Looks great, but better suited to a WWI type plane. I have a Honda 31cc rototiller motor I'm converting for WWI, now I'm pumped again. Thanks.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

This engine is a vertical shaft push lawn mower-type.
I sure would like to know what modifications were made to the sump, although it comes to mind placing a slinger on the conrod, like horizontal shaft engines have and verticals don't. But then again, that may not be necessary as the sump is very small on vertical shaft engines - I've been considerig this same conversion - vertical to horizontal - some time ago, and even bought a cheap lawnmower for that purpose.
I have to agree with soarrich, that engine sure would be great on a scale plane from the first decades of flight due to its slow running characteristics.
Thank you for sharing! [8D]

Not very practical, the carb is not made for anything but level operation..Gravity feed, the gas tank would have to be above the cylinder...No way to change the oils sump either...Made to operate at 3600 rpm....You would be lucky to get it under about 20 lbs....

I have seen some guys convert some 4 stroke weedeater engines over to RC model airplane engines. But these engines are much more lightweight and have a special walbro like carb on them already. But because of rhe oil sump, some aerobatic maneuvers have to be avoided.
Usually the utility engines vibrate a lot, so you need to use a vibration isolation motor mount. Then the engines are very heavy so you need to figure out a way to reduce the weight. next the oil sump can be a problem, so you can't fly certain aerobatics then. if the carb is a flat carb you have problems too. So you would need a 4 stroke walbro carb for the engine. Then the engines are designed to run slow around 3.600 rpms so they may not make enough power to fly a plane, hard to say. But at 3,600 RPMs they would sound more realistic though.
Has anyone made 4 stroke chainsaw engines or maybe 4 stroke leaf blowers yet?

I have three different "designs" of Ryobi 4 stroke 26cc weedeater engines i plan to convert when I get around to it. I am looking for a Stihl 4-mIX that is 4 stroke with valves but mixes the oil in the gasoline that is circulated in the sump before going to the intake valve. Lighter, attitude independent for lubrication and best of all STIHL. but also expensive. I have not found one yet at my engine graveyard. I plan to look this weekend as the spring may have brought out some no-gos ffrom the uninformed throw it away and buy new group.

yes I do the same thing and cruise the neighborhood on gabage day, looking to see if anyone is throwing away their weedeaters, leaf blowers and such, so i can get the engine. usually the engine is perfectly good, the owner just breaks something else on the engine. Like who needs a pull starter on a RC model airplane engine for example?

The stihl is not the engine to use if you are looking at that hybrid technology, the Shindaiwa C-4 is superior in the aspect of intake tract design.
Dolmar has a four stroke chainsaw. Its a 50cc fourstroke hybrid that makes .2 hp more than the 50cc 2 stroke model its eventually going to replace but the weight increase is negligible.Shindaiwa was supposed to release a version of this unit, haven't seen it yet.
and yes there are 4 stroke backpack blowers out there in the 50-80cc class that are normal 4 stroke configuration.
there is no such thing, walbro makes diaphragm carbs for small engines period. Any of the small diaphragm carbs can be set up run on any engine and no the pump spring has nothing to do with it either as Honda used carbs with and WITHOUT pump springs on the trimmers.
