XYZ IGNITION FAILURES
#1
Thread Starter

I had a 3 year life from a XYZ ignition on a Ryobi but it finally died after a lot of use.
The new replacement lasted 15 min one flight.
I open it up and the components are different and obviously inferior, they don,t last.
Any one else had problems with the 'new XYZ' ignition.
I was running it on 5v thru a reg so it was not abused.[

Hmm, let me think here
Low cost Chinese ignition that fails fast?
Sounds normal to me
Seems that other than the RCExcel units (which is poossibly what the original unit was - and even the RCExcels have their share of failures) the Chiense have yet to come out with a decent ignition unit.
There is a company in Zhejiang (where the majority of the Chinese engines are manufactured - including XYZ) that actually makes a forgery of the RCExcel unit - these have been fitted to a couple of brands of engine and were the subject of a thread not so long ago. Maybe your replacement was one of those.
Do yourself a favor, replace it with a Genuine RCExcel, power that with a 4 cell NiMh or NiCd pack that is charged and in good condition and you will have much better reliability of the unit.
