Default Echo SRM 231

I got one. I got after it. It has two rings and gobs of compression. It hand starts easily. If I fly it I'll replace the small silly looking carb and make a new intake manifold.

I have one of these but it is still a weed whacker. It has more power than a Homelite 25. My Echo will remain a weed whacker as long as the weed part holds up.

I have many other model engines this size.

It was done as a wacker. It sat in the weather. There was water in the case and jug. The carb was shot. The forged part of the crank was rusty. The bearings even felt bad. After a carefull clean up the only real damage was a bit of pitting on the cylinder bore under one of the transfer ports.

It is quite a runner, over 9K with a 15x6 using that little carb and no muffler. I think with some tinkering it will really sing.

Echos are great engines. I have a lot of them and really like them. High quality, light weight, and powerful.

I had some time to play yesterday. I smoked 40# of pork shoulder for a family get together. There is time to mess around while it is smoking.

Anyway, I gutted the muffler, installed a WT517 (11mm) carb, and made a new intake manifold. 16x7= 8200rpm, 18x10=6900, and 20x8=5600. That is very impressive to me, for a 23cc.
