hi all
i have a Poulan 46cc converted with C.H. ignitions runs great
20x8 @ 7050rpm but was wondering if any your guys have done any porting , upping the compression or any other thing to get a little more out of this motor i was thinking of make a longer rod about .02 to up the compression what do you think?
thanks Guy

never played with a poulan but seems like making a new rod and taking apart the crank is alot of work for a measly .02". why not just raise the bearing seats a little higher in the case? also check your squish clearance beforehand so you'll know how much to cut.
porting... read somewhere that poulan makes both chrome and nikasil jugs for the 46, some say nikasil can't be ported some say it can, i like chrome...

Could you get a higher compression ring?
What about stuffing the case?
What about a different piston with a different wrist pin height? With the wrist pin lower on the piston- you would effectively be lengthening the rod; therefore boosting compression.
What about a tuned pipe? Bolt on power with no internal mods. to sacrifice reliability.

hi ZAGNUT
Zagnut have you ever raise the compression on these type motors? if so did it do much?
i have a the chrome one as for the rod i can stretch the rod very easy but raising the bearing was my second option I was wondering if raising the compression would make a difference .02"
or more ?? as for porting i was asking before i spend the time to measure timing as for time what is the best all round timing for these type motors? i might just leave it alone !
thanks Guy

check out the "don't forget echo thread" lots of good info on raising compression and porting that would apply to most gassers. i've increased the compression on a 21.2cc echo but haven't run it yet to see how much difference its gonna make but it is alot harder to flip now so we'll see...
