Default Compering DLE 20cc to a Homelite 25cc?

I have seen more and more engines coming out that are 20cc gas and the price is dropping. Now I like my conversions and plan on staying with them until the price drop down to were it cost more to convert. but that are planes out there that are made for 20cc DLE's and I wonder is the homelite will do just as well.

What do you think?

There are hop up mods you can do to the Homelite to get it close, if not perhaps more than the power of a DLE 20, but it will always weigh a bit more. On many installations, that is not a problem. I have, for example. a souped up Homelite 30cc on a Giles 202 that needed virtually no ballast anywhere to balance perfectly....

I have a 25 in a Great planes Space walker. and it is great. I just picked up a hangar 9 messerschmitt 109 I was thinking of putting in a Homelite 25 in that do to having to add so much to the nose to get the CG. Not sure on how it will fit in the cow yet. Making my own engines is the best way to go. but with some planes mite not be a so bad to go with something like the DLE. but if the power to price is worth it.. Just trying to come up with a plan. Thanks for the info.

With the Homelite 25 and 30cc engines, I use studs to mount the backplate. The studs go through the engine backplate and the backplate is secured using washers and nuts. Then I place flat washers against the nuts, and the studs go through the firewall and are secured with flat washers and nyloc nuts inside the plane on the back side of the firewall. This is not only lighter than using a special mounting backplate in addition to the engine backplate, but also is a much smaller footprint on the firewall. (Less space needed.)
