Default Converting a Homelite Chainsaw engine for Model Aircraft Use

I recently bought a homelite chainsaw to clear some brush in my back yard. I have been looking into converting a weedy engine into an airplane engine. I haven't found one that would have enough power to fly a plane with proper authority. This chainsaw has a 33 cc engine, which I think may, I am willing to wreak the thing after I finish my yard work, besides if I need a chainsaw again it was only 109 dollars. Is there a site to get some well written instructions on the convertion technique.

Yes there is a site. It's called rcuniverse.

The late model Homelite and Poulan chains saw are a lot alike. Also, the 33 through 45 cc late Homelites and up to 46 cc Poulans are a lot alike. Do a search for the Poulans and transpose the information on a comparison basis to your Homelite. There's been a tremendious amount written about these in the last year. There's little differences in the various ones as to whether there is a magneto mount on the block or the carb is rigidly mounted or just has a rubber boot?

Enjoy,

Jim

Would 33 cc be enough power for 120 sized cermark sukoi?

The engine will pull the Sukoi around rather well but it's not going to hang on the prop. It will be able to make 100' up runs before playing out and falling off.

Enjoy,

Jim

Hi
Go to the site
www.rsengines.net/brute45/brute45.html
good site with instructions and photos and parts to convert 33 and 45 cc Homelites.
surf the site , have photos and good instructions your engine is named Brute 33
Go to the White pages ( printable) in the site.
for my point of view this is the best site with Homelite photos conversion.
I make my own conversion of a Homelite 38 cc with parts machined by a friend and this site is very good on Homelites. My Homie is in a test stand and put original carb rotated with a teflon piece and CDI.I have bought a chainsaw with little use and engine like new.
Other good site is
www.rcfaq.com
but I saw in RCU it is temporarily unavailable.
Good luck
Jose

This is a Poulan site but everything is pretty close for the Homelite.

I converted one of those engines. I got it out of the Homelite 14" chainsaw, called the "Bandit" I think. It's a great engine! It already has the bigger carb and has better compression than the stock Homie 25s. I have it in my BUSA Fokker DR1 and it hauls it around great. I'm using an 18-6 prop but I'm sure it can handle more. I wish I had known about these engines before I got my 25s. They are less work to convert. You just have to make up some kind of beam type firewall mount.
