This is purely a curiousity question. Why is it worth the time and money? It seems that by the time you invest in the engine, ignition, hub, etc., you have the same amount of money into the conversion as purchasing say a Zenoah g45 or 62. Am I incorrect with this assumption? I have been investigating trying to convert a 45cc - 50cc, just looking for input to this question.

If you like fooling around doing the work and all yes...
The basic savings is if you dink up a weed whacker motor or saw motor, most of he time you are $15.00 to $100.00 from a new motor..
Some motors I've done do cost more than one of the done up ones...
But the pride is in when you can take a $100.00 converted chainsaw motor (that you have done up yourself) and keep up with the high $$$ motors.

All of my ryobi's were given to me. The previous owners said they were broke and bought a new one leaving the old one laying around. I got 4 that way. Got about 3 or 4 of various other brands the same way.

Well let see
A Pouland 46cc if you leave it with magnito Engine $115.00 Hub $15.00 Carb adapter $25.00(I think)
Total cost $155.00 G45 cost above $300.00 The Pouland is not the high performance as some but makes a great sport engine. Turns a 20-10 prop around 7200
I have some Echo 44 blocks that I got for $125.00 that when they are finished with CH ignition with timing advance cost me about $300.00 compared to $500.00 for the same engine from brand name company.
All in the eye of the beholder

E-mail LawnStation and ask them just for the power head..
I got one for $110.00 shipped. Was in excelent shape..didn't have to strip the saw and throw away the extra parts..

Try your local Home Depot. I picked up a display demo that had the bar, chain and other small parts missing. The engine was complete and brand new. After speaking with the manager and telling him what I wanted it for he let me have it for $30. - Nice guy huh! I got my conversion kit from ScottBaldridgeConversions.com and am waiting on my CH ignition. I plan on installing it on a GP Wagstaff.

I can't speak for others but for me it's not so much the money but just 'cause I can. I like the idea of taking a step farther away from the whole arf thing.
