Default Poulan 60

The FedEx man dropped off two Poulan 60cc chainsaws this morning...The tag on the handle says the max rpm is 13,800...So much for "over revving" a chainsaw conversion with a propellor..Any prop that would let that engine turn 13,800 would not pull an airplane...
they look like a good alternative to a G62, we'll see...

Ralph,

Keep us posted on the mods. I have a 60 (3500 type II) but they apparently don't make them anymore in lew of the 54 (3450 type III engines)? Looks like the same case but a different jug? There's going to be a lot of sawing to get the tanks off the crankcase?

Enjoy,

Jim

A bandsaw makes short work of the case...The crank has a Husky part number on it..the carb is a Walbro, too new to be in the 2003 parts book...Looks like it will be in the 3.5 to 4 lb range...
Nice short stiff crank, same diameter as a G62 with 6202 bearings, one in front and one in back...

Sorry if these are silly questions, but im new to gassers.

What do the poulans run like on standard Magneto ignition?
How hard are they to start, and how much performance do you loose over a CH ignition equiped engine? ie throttle response, reliability, ease of starting, top end rpm?

Say for example a poulan 46.
If I leave the standard magneto ignition on the engine, what mods do I have to complete to get the engine to a useable state.
Cut all the un-necessary lugs, etc off, make a carb adaptor plate, prop shaft, any thing else?

RCIGN1 Where did you pick up the 60s?

Thankyou,
Cameron McDonald

The Poulans came from Lawnstation.com, someone sent them to me to convert...
Engines run the same either way, the conversion adds no power, just easier starting and less weight...The 46 has the mag coil on the cylinder, the 60 mag coil is mounted on part of the case that gets cut off, so it needs a conversion....The 60 has a flat case so a plate can be easily bolted to it for a mount, the 46 needs 2 rails to mount it on...I haven't run the 60, the 46 turns a Master Airscrew 20-10 about 7000 rpm, a 22-8 about 6400....

Thanks,
So with a belt reduction starter, If it turns the engine over, I guess I should be ok with the standard magnet.

Any idea how much weight you save by adding an electronic ignition, and removing the magneto?
Anybody know what happened to the RCFAQ.com site? Where can this be accessed now?
Thankyou,
Cameron McDonald.
