Hi everyone.I would like to find out some information on the Poulan line of chain saw engines. In particular, the 38 c.c and the 42 c.c engines.I've read in here that the Poulan 42 does NOT have a engine mounted magneto making it rather useless for conversion using stock ignition system.I know a lot of you guy's like to convert them over to the electronic ignition type system but that gets real expensive, real quick. At this point in the game,I prefer to keep my costs down and use the stock ignition system if possible.Maybe down the road as I can afford it ,I might consider lopping off a few pounds by going to a electronic system. In a perfect world,no doubt ,this would be my set up of choice also.
Has anyone ever converted a Poulan 38 c.c and successfully used the stock ignition system?I have never seen one of these stripped down so I don't know if the magneto is case or engine mounted. They had a skid of these 38's and 42's piled like cord wood(refurbished power heads)at our local Princess Auto store for $99 CDN. and I was wondering whether they were worth the time, effort and expense to convert over to model use.The flywheels on these engines look to be as big or even smaller than the ones used on the Homelite25's or Ryobi 31's.Hard to tell through all that plastic casing.Any thoughts on this guy's?Sure would like to learn a little more about these engines before I take the plunge!
The idea eventually is to install it into a plane like the "Ryan's Rebel".Does this sound feasible?Your thoughts on this would be most appreciated.Have a good one guy's!
