Default Kawasaki 40.2cc

What you think, any experience converting Kawasaki's ? This one is a 40.2cc, Walboro rotating barrel carb. Came off a backpack blower. It's very tall, needs to be cut down & CDI ignition. It's only got fair compression, needs a set of Bowman rings. The piston & cylinder are smooth and clean.

After you cut off the lower portion, I see only two upper, as pictured, good mounting points...

If I use this side for mounting, I think I can use these four bolts for the mount. What you think ??

The missing pic, that should work just fine. FWIW: I used hacksaw then dremel with cut-off wheel on that protruding shaft on Echo to allow flush mount.

I agree Mike, I had planned to cut the shaft off just a little out side the the seal to provide a flat mounting surface.

Any idea how powerful these engines are ? It "looks" like the finished product would be heavy, hard to guess. If these won't turn up pretty good RPM's and are boat anchors I won't mess with it. Any thoughts ???

Hi,

I have one of these. I was told it was 36cc; never bothered to check. Let me know how yours turns out. Then maybe I'll dig mine out and give it a whirl. You might be able to cut the crankshaft off inside that seal, then block off where the seal was. Save a few ounces. Zagnut (I believe) has done this with the Kioritz engine he was working with. I'm going to do it to mine if/when I take it off the plane again.

Good luck,
Av8tor

Av8tor, Thanks for reminding me, that's how I did my Kioritz also. Guess I had a brain fade there for a while. I got 40.2 cc's from the "specs" on the original motor cover.

Any weights as pictured, and without flywheel and coil?

Antique
I also have one of these 40.2 Kawasaki blowers engines. Don't know if it's a boat anchor , or not. Can you give me any updates on the one you have? Has it been converted? How's the performance? Did you go with ign? What does it weigh, etc.? Share the knowledge please.

I decided that 40cc was a little bigger than I wanted to go so I did not convert them. Ended up giving them away to a friend who I'm sure will find a good use for them. Mabey he'll comment on his results.
