It realy depends on how many SQ inches of wing. If it can carry the extra weight of a gas engine without becoming a nose heavy brick. Can you move servos to the tail to ballance? It would know what kit your looking at.

RE: 180 2 stroke = ?? Gas
Thanks for having the time to help 3961,
http://www.americanpioneerhobbies.com/sukhoi120.html
This is the link of my plane
It's 70" wingspan, 60" long. made for 120-160 2stroke, 12lb.
I have an MVVS 26cc on it with a 16"prop. flew it last week but there was no power at all, it barely lifted and flew.
I have a smoke system fixed in it, total of three sets of batteries 1 for Rx, 1 for Ignetion, and 1 for smoke valve. i had them all along with the smoke valve ( Sullivan pump )
next to the tank( including the ignetion box) to, barely get the CG right!!! Really don't know why!
I'm thinking a 35cc would do, HOPING a 50cc will be ur answer since i've got one on the shelf.
any help here??? THANKS

With all that gear and weight I don't think you will be happy with any engine. Im betting you have that plane with fuel and smoke oil at over 14 lbs. If you have a 50cc DA and you want smoke you might consider an air frame designed for it. Look at the wild hare edge 540 or extra special 300. both have the wing area to carry the weigh of smoke and engine without loosing performance.

Moe,
I do have the gas MVVS too. It is very good. I get close to 8000 tmp on a 18*8 Menz prop.
But this engine needs a pipe, have a krumscheid pipe on it. A 16 inch prop is to small for this engine.
But as mark said the answer to your problems is not to fit in a heavier engine.
Make the MVVS work better or use a OS FX1.6

There is a very long thread over in gas engines that should give you enough info to get your engine working well in that plane. Sounds like you are trying to prop it for a glow engine, and maybe need to prop it more like a gasser, lower rpm bigger diameter and more pitch.

HI:
A friend used a larger carg on the mvvs and they improve a lot ( 15 - 20% even in the 35 cc they enlarged the slot in the longshaft to the widenining it to the size of the inlet at the carb, and it was flipping really good a 20-9 prop.
Also I saw a mvvs providing unlimited vertical to a 72" extra.
I used a ryobi 31 cc, that ios no a big power plant at all in a Golberg Sukhoi and it has almost unlimited performance, but you have to keep your model light.
For the DA 50 I will go to the 27% CAmodel extra 300s, it is a real jewel, light, solid in the corners and no bad habits at all, very good model.
www.camodel.com.ar, I don´t know who is selling it here in the US.
