Default What is this engine...........

and what to do with it ?

Hi,

I just bought a 1:4 Mr. mulligan, 9.5ft (about) with a 34cc glow engine, so it looks.
Bought it for almost nothing. The motor has a spring starter and a serial number,
no name on it.

It hasnt run for a couple of years.

Anyone info on what this is and what to do with it to get it in good running condition ?

Best regards,

Knarf

I don’t recognize the engine but someone in ‘Engine Conversions’ will know. Why don’t you post the question and pictures where the gas engine people visit?

It is a Quadra, converted to glow.
These babies will hurt you bad if you are not carful. Only use the backflip method for starting please.

Factory built Q35 glow, look at the prop hub...You will have to rebuild the carb with a diaphragm kit. For fuel you can use glow fuel mixed with a gallon of straight methanol, or use SuperTigre fuel, already made with less oil..Replace the fuel lines and check the fuel tank, the line to the clunk will probably be hard.......It will run very well....

THanks for the info guys.

About the fule system , i completly replaced it., ill check out the carb.

@Pé, thanks for the warning, the engine has a spring starter so ill try to use that. I've red about the backwards flip method.

@RC, do you mean methanol fuel with a lesser content of oil % ?

Genaral, what prop will it turn ?

BEst regards,

Knarf

The engine has all roller bearings, so the extra oil used in glow engine for the bushings on both ends of the con rod is not needed...It should turn a 20-8 really well...[8D]

Wats the total % of oil I should use ?

Tried the springstarter without battery, just to see if it would flip through compression.
It did, too bad my smallest finger was in the way of the prop.....

MAN! these props REALLY hurt.

Ive checked the internals and the Carb. bearing and liner/piston look ok, carb is working ok en sucking fuel. With the plug removed I can hear the engine sucking in fuel/air mixture. Too bad the plug adapter broke. Ill have to make a new one, no problem though--> lathe available.

After the "hit" last night and reading the operating manual for this engine, i kinda have some more respect for these engines.... these props are big !
