Default Spark Color

Hello all,

I am curious. I have an engine that the spark is orange when the plug is pulled and the engine is turned over by the starter. This spark color is supposed to be blue.....right? All the other engines I have spark a bright whitish blue. I cannot get this engine to fire. Could this be the problem?

Thanx,
Tom

The theory behind what you say is the same as I have always gone by. But the Phelon magneto's like are on the Ryobi's, Macs, and some times Homelites will just throw a orange-yellow spark. I don't think good of it but my engines with the Phelons run pretty good.

Any spark at all should start the engine.

Enjoy,

Jim

check your fly wheel to see if it hasn't shifted
loosen your pick up coil and respace using an envelope as a gap guage.

blue is good it could be the plug ,coil wire or the coil most likely the coil I always use a business card to set up the coil on all my engines seems to work well .

The spark needs to be able to jump a 10mm gap to have the kv to fire a plug under compression.
