I think what most of us are looking for is a cheaper alternative to the ignitions on the market today. I would venture a guess that also most of us cannot process blank circuit boards. If most of us were given a bag of all the parts needed and instrucions with a diagram we could probably solder it all together. I am sure there are some that would like to have a plug-n-play version as well. You could have three versions, Kit (you provide instructions/diagrams and the programmed parts), ARF (you provide all parts and instructions/diagrams to build it in step-by-step fashion), RTF (would be ready to connect to spark plug and battery and fly). I would be interested in the ARF version.

I posted a thread a good while back asking for someone to come up with a design such as what you are describing. I would be very interested in a full kit that I could assemble myself.
It needs to be a simple CD system with coil included- with retard if possible, but without is fine also- I just wanna get into an electronic ignition for my conversions that wont set me back half a payday.

I must admit that the research I did on the matter suggests that those who say that the current prices for ready made systems are reasonable have valid reasons to make that statement- the parts that must be sourced are not easily come by- and not real easily made either.

Maybe we have just not hit on the right combination of parts yet- maybe raptorhelis is the one who can do it!!

Raptorhelis- after thinking on this for a while- and this is just an opinion, mind you, I say we all collaborate and come up with a REAL, HONEST TO GOD, BARE BONES, WORKABLE CD SYSTEM first- before we get ambitious and go into the many cool extra features and such. I think I speak for the majority of us when I suggest that what we really need is an inexpensive system with low parts count that is bulletproof- idiot proof (myself included) and readily assembled. It needs to basically resemble what is already on the market unless it can be done a new and better way. You seem confident that it can be done for a small amount of cash. I say, well then, lets get some of them going- actually firing plugs on engines. Get a good design worked up, and "show me the money" and I'll buy several of them myself.

I'm an ITT tech bachelors grad, and work on engine controlers for motorola, while i cant share any information that moto uses, i have a love for tinkering and building stuff. if there is anything that i can do to help, i would love to be part of this....

REAL, HONEST TO GOD, BARE BONES, WORKABLE CD IGNITION SYSTEM..Good luck, guys, my toroids cost $16 each in lots of 100....Pre drilled circuit boards, 500 at a time, about $.75 each...A few resistors, capacitors, diodes, and SCR and voltage regulator, all bought in quantities of 100 or 1000...Coils from C&H and a box to put the parts in..Ignition wire and a plug cap.....Time to solder the parts in the board...Hall sensors from DigiKey, magnets for the hub.....Never figured out the total cost, maybe I don't want to know...

With Gas prices going so high....may be best to convert to glow....lot more simple over spark set-up ignitions. But it sure is nice to have spark with certain engines. Capt,n P.S . RGIGN1 has a good spark set-up for sale.

If we could turn this into a Kit the cost could be pretty low. Radio Shack sells a PC Board kit that is fairly priced with instructions on how to make a board. If it is a simple circuit most of us should be able to step up and do the job. Interesting thread!!!!

Iv never cared for electronic myself.If you ask me I don't think you can beat a Mag set-up correctly.You don't save much weight with e.i. either,not with larger engines anyway.Theres an extra battery to charge,replace etc.If someone could make a disc type flywheel with a caliber type pick-up coil then that would impress me alot,and worth the money.Theres also the interferance with the rx with electronics.Its just not worth it unless thats what you positively got to have.
