Mac 38cc - What do you think about this engine?

I have a Mac 38cc conversion I got off of Scott Ellisson at Brillelli. The engine looks very nice and seems to be solid. I am hoping to get some feed back here from some of you out there that have used this engine. What are your likes and dislikes with the engine? Mine weigh's in a 4lbs 5oz. I plan on using a MAS 18x6 or 18x8 prop with this engine on my Great Planes Giant Big Stick. The review here on RCU had this plane weighing in at 13lbs 8oz with a Fuji 32b. The engine weighs 4lbs 1oz according to manufacture specs.

Thanks for the feed back. With this engine only weighing in at 4lbs 5oz compared to a 4lb 31cc Ryobi or Homelite 25cc I was hoping it would generate more low end torque sense it is a chain saw engine and not a weedwacker engine. Do the chain saw engines normally generate more power or torque?

Since trimmer engines normally run at nearly no-load, they have very restrictive intake and exhaust systems and mild porting to control the RPM. Chainsaw engines must have high torque with a flat curve, similar to what is required for RC flying. Blower engines fall somewhere in between. Brush cutter engines offer a good compromise as their power requirement is similar to a chainsaw.

That is very good information. Have you used one of these engines on a plane? If you did how did it perform for you? I am really trying to see if it will be a good engine for my Great Planes Giant Stick or will it be to much engine. I am planning on using a MAS 18x6 or 18x6 prop. Scott told me it will spin a 18x6 prop at 8000 RPM. If that is so I wonder why more of these MAC 38cc engine are not being used.

ANYTHING you get from Scott will be good! I think he thoroughly tests everything he builds before offering it to the public. If it doesn't meet his standards, it's history. He doesn't need to make any inflated claims.
There are not a lot of the Mac 38 engines floating around. I don't have one.

Thanks for this info. It fells good hearing from one of Scott's other customers and to find out you are satisfied with his product. I plan of doing some testing this weekend myself with this engine on a test stand using a dynathrust 18x6 and a MAS 18x8 porp. I'll take rpm readings on both and post them here.
