Default homelite 30cc with CH ignition

What is the differance between a normal conversion and one using a CH ingnition system and how does this compare to a G-26?

The only real difference would be weight. The CH ignitions are much lighter than a coil and a flywheel. I just finished a Toro 25 and the weight difference is almost a pound and a half. I do all my conversions with the CH ignition. This Toro was a test. No difference with performance either way. But the big difference is the cost of the ignition, $100 to $150 depending on options like Bosch cap and Syncrospark. For those of us that are tuned to cost my experiment with the Toro shows that for $25 for the engine (new) and a couple hours on the lathe, one could be flying gas for less than $30 sans the electronic ignition. Take that Tower Hobbies!!

My hopped up Homelite 30cc turns an APC 16 x 8 prop at over 9400. That's probably a touch more power than a G-26.

What do you consider "Hopped Up"?

All the little tricks. Porting, port timing, crankcase stuffed, compression increased, larger carb, free flowing muffler, electronic ignition with timing optimized, Frank Bowman rings, etc....

It should turn the same prop around 8500 or more with only minimal mods like a carb and free flowing muffler.

As a comparison, my Homelite 30 was bought as a new shortblock in 1998. It is absolutly stock except for a WA167-1 carb. It has a Dynathrust 18-8 prop and turns 7400 rpm as shown.

I have another modified to the hilt and it turns a Classic 18-8 at 8200. It has C-H synchro spark ignition.

Enjoy,

Jim

Right here in this forum its been gone through several times.. Start reading this Conversion Engine forum...

In your searching, the Homelite 25 and the 30 are very much alike and are from the same family.

But here's a link to someone's site.....

Here's another site....

Being as the topic of this thread is Homelite 30 with C-H ignition, I should talk about that?

The main advantages of the C-H is convienence and weight. There is a increase in power but its not a significant increase.

Also with C-H ignition, the engine can be hand started. It takes a strong guy with a good technique to hand start a Homelite 25-30 when they are using the original Magneto.

Enjoy,

Jim
