i am considering a makita 4-stroke for this plane, but,i am wondering.
i have a new 31cc ryobi 2 ring engine, with JAG mount, aluminum pitts muffler,C&H electronic ignition(with hub sensor,no flywheel) and the stock carb. will this combo pull the dynaflite chipmunk i am building? do i need to do some mods to the carb?
when i ask if it will pull this plane,i don't want a wallowing pig,nor am i looking for hovering or torque-rolls,but i would like it to have a nice reserve of power. any thoughts or suggestions? thanks in advance.

Hi there 48, I have an 80 in. Big Foiler I scrach built it weighs in at 13.5 pounds. I have a single ring Ryobi on it and flies very nice. It will hang on the prop for a few seconds and then start to tail slide, neat if I can hold it. this engine swings a MA 18x8 at 7800 rpm. Gryohead

I built one and flew it on a 25cc Homelite, and I liked the combination very much. I sold it last year after flying it for about three years. Flight was scale like and spirited. Remember, the original trainer was no slouch. I tried different props, and the best performance was with APC 16X8 and APC 17X8N. Your Ryobi should do well, also. You may need to engineer some firewall changes to handle the length of your engine, but it should be doable. my plane weighed around 16 1/2 pounds.,

I have one with a single ring Ryobi on CH ignition, swinging an 18x6 prop at about 6500. It flies quite well, certainly not under powered.

if you go to the JAG engines page it shows some pic's on the chipmunk/Ryobi combo I would just try to build light to get better performance (10-12 Lbs)
