Default McCullough 38cc Question

I'm trying my hand at converting a McCullough 38cc. It look pretty doable, but I don't like the crank bearings. It looks like they are not made to take a thrust load--see picture. Also there are no keepers to keep the bearing from being pushed out, I guess when you squeeze the crank halfs together, the bearing cannot move?

I'm thinking about buying a bearing that can take a thrust load, anyone else have experience with this motor?

Thanks!

Flyrc100

You need to talk to Scott Ellingson of Brillelli engines. He used to convert these engines and I think he could tell you the pros and cons of this engine. Go to www.brillelli.com and send him a e-mail. He is really good about help people out.

flyrc100: How mutch end play do you have in the crankshaft with this 38cc Mac engine? If the end play is not mutch...run it. Check later and if end play gets more....then work on it. Maybe you can install a thrust washer now while it is apart. Good Luck Capt,n

Endplay is minimal, but if you apply a thrust load, the crank goes right into the side of the case, or into the needle bearing cage, depending on where you put the cage. Thrust bearing aint a bad idea, if I could find one with a .75 OD and .5 Id.

You might find a thrust bearing at a electric motor repair shop. Good luck. Capt,n
